Left With no Card, Cancelled dd's

Hi Guys And Gals ;)

Cant believe what has happened today, The Woolwich has cancelled my card and dd's as I have mortgage arrears as I have broke a couple of arrangements.
They say the only way I can draw money out from my account is to go into the branch they open 9-5 I work 8-5 the branch is in town I dont work in town. This has left me with no money for food, petrol, general living expenses. The best is I have to ring them to check if I can withdraw money from my account.Cheeky ******* Its my money/wages.
Has anybody experienced anything similar what about human rights surely this must be against the law leaving somebody with no money for food?
Any thoughts? would be very much appreciated.Called them 3 times they say there is nothing they can do.
Still at least one thing today I got a letter from Natwest offering me £528 asked for £628 with interest. The only thing is though they are going to pay into old account that is overdrawn so not sure if I will see that money going to pop in to see if they will send me a cheque , wont hold my breathe though.

Clearly it's not your money but the banks that you have been using and without their permission.

In many of the european countries it is against the law to go into unauthorised borrowing. You get treated a lot stronger than your cards being cancelled there.

Banks only cancel the direct debits and cards if they feel you are abusing the facility. I've been there and cancelled a few in my time at a bank. It isnt something that is done lightly but it's generally the Cheeky ******* that think they can keep spending money they dont have without any consequences and make no effort to work with the bank.

I think its more likely offsetting the arears on the mortgage.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Your best bet is to try to open a savings account (and fast) with another bank (maybe Natwest) and have money, wages etc. paid into that and pay your bills with cash until this is either stabilised or sorted.

Once you have the savings account established, you may try and open a cheque account also.

Do try and talk to the Woolwich to resolve the issues and discuss your circumstances.

Louise you could open a Basic Bank Account and use that - the Co-op will give you a visa electron card with it too.

I would agree with JoeK on this one - get all of your monies paid into another account asap. The Co-op. Abbey and Nationwide will all open an account by you walking into the branch with ID - passport/photo driving licence/utility bills, etc. You need to separate your incoming monies from your debts.

The Woolwich does have the right to do exactly as it has done but there are ways around it.

Now that the Woolwich is completely merged with barclays and barclays calling the shots the old woolwich customers will have to get to grips with the way barclays does business which is the hard nosed way.

You would need to take the time out and go to the woolwich and speak to the manager or personal banker and sort it out in person. Getting a new account elsewhere might be a good idea (if your credit score comes back ok that is to let you open a new account). You dont want to be repossessed or pay the costs incurred by not taking the time out to speak to them.

If your debt is quite overwhelming for you then take the time to speak to CAB and get their help to set up a budget plan to help you get back to normal.

A basic account does not rely on a good credit score, by the way.

Even an undischarged bankrupt is allowed to have one.

I have seen it myself were people were refused a basic account because of bad debt. Their wages were being withheld at other high street banks and the customer wanted to open an account with barclays and got declined due to credit score. Due to that credit score the customer was also not able to remortgage and consolidate debt with woolwich. Maybe its only barclays way who only want credit worthy clients???

Maybe a savings account as it is not a regular account would be ok. Dont know that one though.
