ppi on a remortgage loan

hi please could you tell me how long have i got to apply for ppi i paid on a loan secured on home which was paid up in 2004 at the time i was married to my ex husband where it was in both our names is it too late for us to apply we were both working my self as a carer for the elderly and he as a steel worker the loan was for £5,000 and was paying £350-00 a month my ex husband as still got the statements with the account number on it , also what i need to know is at the time the company was called cedar holdings but lloyds tsb took over so if i can apply do you think its better for me to apply by writing or to give them a phone call many thanks suz
