Redundancy and housing benefit

Options
Hi

I wonder if someone could help. I am about to be made redundant. At present I am paying rent as a non dependant and as I do not earn much the rest is paid through housing benefit.

If unfortunately after 6 months I am still unemployed and cannot claim JSA through circumstances, or if I choose not to claim JSA at all, would I still have to pay non dependant rent at the same level as I am doing whilst working?

    MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Do you mean that the person claiming Housing Benefit is having a non dependent deduction from their housing benefit and you are paying that figure to make up for that? If so, if you are not working the lowest non dependent deduction will be made which is currently £11.45 per week.

There some other circumstances which might apply and change this - you can have a look via the link below and ask further question(s) if needed

    Hi
I assume you mean that you are the non dependent adult in the household and the tenant is getting HB. The answer to your question may depend on your age. If you are under 25, there would be no non dependent deduction if you are receiving Income Support, Income based JSA or ESA. Otherwise if you are over 25 but have no income or are on benefits or under 25 and not claiming the above benefits the minimum deduction of £11.45 pw applies
