Anyone work the Tesco nights? Do you have to be checkout trained??

My partner has an interview for Thursdays but isnt so keen on being checkout trained - is this an essential part of the role? Thanks

My experience comes from a different supermarket.

The first store I worked in was not a 24 houtr store so night shift did not need to be checkout trained.

However the second store I worked for the store was open 24 hours so they did need to be checkout trained incase of queues.

    Thank you.

It’s not 24hrs, but store is open 10-12pm and then 6am - 7pm during the “night shift”

    Why not?

I used to work nights at Tesco and yes, they probably will till train you. It will be for busier times (eh around Xmas) if there are massive queues.

I know they can be annoying, but does he really hate customers THAT much?

I'd always take the opportunity for training. Looks good on a CV and you never know when something might come in useful.

All new members of staff are trained on both main tills and occasionally on self service too.

Even going back to when I worked in Tesco (25+ years ago) they trained staff on checkout even if they weren't likely to use them often.

Refusing to cooperate is not likely to go down well
