Hedge who does it belong to

I have a hedge and trees, the hedge appears to be falling apart, but how do I find out who it belongs to?
The roots appear to be in the garden below mine.

Check the deeds? There may be marks on the plans showing responsibility for borders. Sometimes it's "shared". But if the plants are actually planted on someone elses property, you may not be able to do much but clip the bits overhanging your property. It really depends on where the boundary actually lies.

What do you mean by 'falling apart'?

Like it has rotted away big holes and rotten patches

Are you hoping to replace it with a fence or fill in the gaps so that it fills out?

Have you talked to the neighbours on the other side of the hedge - would they be willing to share the cost or let you get on with whatever you want to do?

If the hedge is on a steep bank, I believe that it belongs to the property at the top of the bank. Could be wrong about this!
It might be possible to find the original fence posts, or their stumps. Other than that, use the measurements on your deeds.
