Catering food

Options
Anyone have experience of which shop to use for pre-prepared catering food? I have a funeral to arrange and have looked at Costco, Marks & Spencer, Sainsburys, Waitrose and Tesco.

Waitrose are good because they will deliver on the day of the event but somewhat expensive. Costco are cheapest and reasonable quality but apparently don't have the food ready until midday on the actual day, unless we were to pick it up the day before but don't know how well it would keep.

Any experiencies?

Have you looked for a small local firm that could do it all for you?
They can be surprisingly affordable (plus it takes the hassle away from you), have a look on Facebook for reviews( even FB has it`s good points).

    I second your idea :T

Keep it local and help small businesses.

Sorry to hear about your loss, I realise hassle-free has its advantages on these occasions so professional catering is the way to go.

    Me three.

M&S etc offer their own food, just cut up and served on a tray with a hefty price premium for the privilege (SuperShoppers covered this on their Christmas special). You'd be better off buying their stuff the previous day, storing in a fridge overnight and spending an extra 20 mins on decanting on the day of the service. Or asking a local cafe to arrange it for you. In Romford you should be spoiled for choice.

In the end we decided to pre-order some platters from Costco and a couple from M&S. The rest we will get from M&S on the day before like suggested.

I've had the sandwich platters that Costco and M&S do and both looked and tasted top notch.
