Downgrade and lower wage anticipated

Options
Hi, my employer keeps changing my job profile. I've kept up with it for a while. But since recently I'm pushed out of my comfort zone and I'm now told that my performance is bad. I'm set on an improvement path and told that I'll be downgraded in case I'm not meeting expectations by mid-year. Colleagues in similar situations who complain are told that they're free to go.
I'm foreseeing a situation where I will be downgraded and they will ask me to accept a reduction in pay. What's the best way to deal with the situation in your opinion? Thank you DH.

Refuse the reduction in pay. They can not force you to take a lower pay.
Obviously they could manage you out of the door or if you have been there less than 2 years they can just get rid of you.

If you think the writing is on the wall or are not happy there, I would be looking for a new job.

    Thank you.
Is that really the case that they can't force me to accept lower pay?
I'm working for the company for nearly 6 years and am unlikely to find anything similar where my family and I live.
