Heat pumps, install and real life usage help please.

Hi all

We are in the process of adding 3 new bedrooms to our bungalow, in total its going to be an additional 80sq Meters of floor space across three rooms.

Am wondering if forum members can provide some real life of experience of using an air sourced heat pump as the heating source for similar sized space, as well as install costs.

Am also wondering if the heat pumps can work as aicon in the summer?

Thanks for any advice :).

Hiya, I assume you mean air to air, not air to water, but both can heat or cool, but if you do the whole heating system, then you can't get the RHI subsidy if you use it for cooling (silly rules).

Our 3.5kW can heat and maintain our small conservatory and living room with spare, that's a total of approx 30m2, and the conservatory, with a glass roof, is a tougher job to heat or cool, than an ordinary room.

Cost of kit and install was just over £1k.

For 3 rooms perhaps try a multi split system with just one external unit feeding the three internal units.

Guessing now, but for bedrooms, you might need less heat/cool, so perhaps 2.5kW each, but total guess.

hi, yes, heat pump and A/C are basically the same; in winter they produce heat and in the summer cold.
Heat pumps are much more efficient tan electric radiators or any other source of heat; the only negative thing (or positive) is that they dry the air of the room.
If I were you, I would try to install a Mini VRF system (Toshiba is one of the best): with one outdoor unit, it supplies energy to the three indoor units.
By the way, do not forget the best heating system is a good insulation
