Mortgage advisor and solicitors

Hi all,

So we live down south, looking to buy up north, 180 miles away.

We want to approach a mortgage advisor before applying as I was bankrupt 6 1/2 years ago and not sure how this will affect an application. (Or will it???)

But I'm wondering, would we be best speaking to an advisor in the south or the north?

And would the solicitor need to be in the north? Or if the advisors recommends one in the south then would it make a difference to proceedings or anything?

Does not matter where either are based in the main. We have customers from Brighton to Scotland.

Though the solicitors do at least need to be qualified in the same jurisdiction as the property they're dealing with.

If all other things are equal, then I would go for a solicitor local to the property being purchased, as they're likely to have potentially useful local knowledge (local title quirks, practices of the relevant council departments, ability to pronounce placenames without sounding silly, etc).

Have you conducted all of your credit reports to see if the bankruptcy is still on your file. No use doing any work with a broker until then. Some brokers even ask for the reports!
