I have someone who is going back to work after a long period
ANd want to know as she does not have her old P45 will the person have any problems?
Going to her new Employee

    She doesnt need a p45, An old one is of no use what so ever.
    She will get a form from her new employer to complete.
    make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

    P45 used to expire after 6 months anyway. Once over you would fill in a P46 but since they all went electronic I think they replaced the form with something else, our place calls it a starter form.

    there is no 6 months "expiry"

    a P45 is live until, and then dead on, the 6th April every year because it is nothing more than a record of the income earned and tax paid in the tax year in which it is issued.
    Start a new job on the first day of the next tax year (6th April) and the P45 is irrelevant.

    This covers all possibilities of P45s whatever their age. One possibility not commonly known about is someone starting new employment before the 25th of May with a P45 dated in the previous tax year. In this case if the tax code is an L code it is up-rated (by the budget increase ) and used on an accumulative basis.
