Just that really ... We're writing about it in the email, and I love to hear what the best ever thing you've got on Freegle or Freecycle is. Thanks

Exactly the right number of bricks to make a feature fireback, and the right number of old quarry tiles to make a hearth, as well as enough cut Bath stone to exactly make one doorway and one window.
All from the same generous Freecycler, 2miles away, and before having taken any measurements! No idea how it all fitted so well, it was just "meant to be".0 -
I've had (& given) some great stuff on Freecycle over the years but sadly I think articles like this fuel the endless over the top greedy requests that are making Freecyclers (and Freeglers) leave in droves. My local group is full of people wanting top-of-the-line goods and totally missing the point, which is KEEPING STUFF OUT OF LANDFILL. Yes you might bag some top quality items if you're in the right place at the right time, but I think Freecycle is suffering from these kind of articles.
It's also worth emphasising that usually if you're being given something then you need to be able to collect it.
I know this is a money saving site so it's relevant to talk about what people have received, but why not include a section on the most random stuff people have *given away*, to at least partly balance it out?
I gave away a metal garden shed once (when I upgraded to a bigger one). It was in more than 100 pieces but the guy who took it was confident he could rebuild it, rather him than me!
My mum offered at least a dozen pairs of knitting needles when she cleared out her craft stash - allowing a youth leader to teach their entire group to knit :-)0 -

Lucky youth leader. I belong to a group that were about to teach local Guides to knit. When we approached the local Red Cross charity shop to buy any needles, we were told they could no longer sell them & had just thrown away the large collection they had had on sale the previous week!0 -
A light box- not for SAD but used for tracing (as in drawing/transferring images from one piece of paper to another). I think it was previously owned by a newspaper office but as someone who draws and sketches was very useful to me and though a lot more sleek, similar versions today are not cheap!
I've given away loads of random things in the past, no idea what happens to them but have to say, the best feeling is when someone actually shows up rather than any feel-good feeling on helping the environment or helping someone else out. I also wish it were easier to pick people who did show up against offering it out to those who don't.
I'd also like a version that didn't require I sign up to Yahoo. I had to leave in the end as my email kept getting hacked (I don't have things to give away every day so didn't check my emails every day) and then it would send people spam or links that people actually thought were from me and dumped viruses or similar to their accounts. I now just give away on Gumtree because at least I don't have to be signed up to Yahoo.0 -
I've had lots of things. Floor tiles for my bathroom ( three whole boxes which the person who donated had left over). Carpet remnants which carpeted my hall, several bits of small furniture that I have repaired, painted and still use, free tickets for an antique fair.....

A pinball machine from the 1970's - but it did need a specialist service!
A huge thank you to all who post the comps and deals that make life so much fun!0 -
A lovely sewing machine, vintage and in perfect working order - better than a new one, with more attachments than I'd ever seen before. Oh, and an overlocker and a tailors dummy. All items have since been in constant use.
Can I just say - if I receive anything on Freecycle, I always email the person afterwards to say "thank you" - always! I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times someone has paid me the same courtesy. Quick enough to reply to an offer though!0 -
The best ever thing I got from Freecycle was a reclining chair, still have it more than 10 years later and in daily use.
Have given away lots of stuff, mainly gardening equipment and plants.
Am not convinced that Freecycling is totally a good thing, all those cars and vans crisscrossing the country belching out loads of pollution
Though, thinking about it no different that boot sales.0
