Well yet another Bank Holiday is nearly with us.

Are there not too many Bank Holidays?

I think Bank Holidays are there to reward Jo public who are already on
mega salaries and have other holidays.

Carers don't get Bank Holidays off and have to survive on £46.95p a week.

My local carer provider said that I can not have my time off as they will not pay on such holidays.

    Lots of places are still open on bank holidays anyway. The shops here are all still open like normal. But I know what you mean.

    Bank holidays aren't there just for carer's , they're there for everyone. If the government wont pay to cover/providing funding for , that surely should be taken up within them rather than as an argument against bank holidays.

    Not everyone who takes bank holidays is on a mega salary ,plenty of low paid workers take them as well.
    I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

    I take your point CIS but even the low paid workers would get paid more than Carers £46.95p a week.

    I think you'll find carers who are family members get no time off EVER and get paid nothing in most cases.

    I understand , thats why I said it should be taken up with the government. They do need to make extra provisions for carer's, finacially and/or assistance wise. :D

    Dont give them any excuse to cut bank holidays , hey'll have us chained to a desk 24/7 if they get the chance :eek:

    Not sure what the link between carers and too many bank holiday is, but certainly it is not only carers who do not automatically get bank holidays off. In my building the engineering company are given the option of working or taking a day out of their holiday entitlement.

    If you don't like them then you sound like you are lucky in having chosen a career that doesnt support them. But if you do, the injustice of you having to work certainly does not make the whole system of bank holidays wrong.

    Really you could argue that parents don't get bank holidays off either. Especially so in the case of single parents who have to care for young or disabled children 24/7 without any support.

    In this country we lag far behind the amount of public holidays other European countries have, so I don't think anyone should be complaining that there are too many of them in the UK. :confused:

    I agree that carer's allowance isn't too generous, but sadly many other benefits are ridiculously low as well & people are expected to survive on them.
    The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

    I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Very true. A weekend/bank holiday seems much the same as any other day to me.

    Again I see your point but carer's allowance is supposed to be a replacement income to those that care - and is taxed as such too.
