Answer Format

ITV answer format
If for example the answer is "B - Lemon"

Then all these answers would be acceptable (if you have more choice than just selecting the letter)

Number of entries allowed

This will be stated in the competition text and is usually up to 3 or 6 times per phone number entered online or by text or call, if you have more than 1 number then you can enter each of them up to 3 or 6 times etc. Entries must be made by the person entering the competition although the phone number does not have to be yours, you just need to be contactable on it.

NEW (July 2014)

They have amended the T&C's again to put actual numbers to what they consider is manipulation so there is now an overriding limit of 29 entries from any one entry platform in addition to whatever the limit per phone number is

Contact procedures (June 2013)
5. Winner Contact
5.1.General contact: The winner will be contacted as soon as practicable on or after the draw date or judging date (as appropriate) as indicated in the interaction information. Reasonable efforts will be made to contact a winner on the phone number provided when entering the promotion or such other method of contact deemed appropriate by the Promoter in its sole discretion in the circumstances. Unless the prize is time critical or time sensitive, the Promoter will try to contact the winner over a 4 week period.

5.2.Time critical: Where the prize must be taken up within 3 months of the close date of the competition, the competition will be considered “time critical”. As a winner needs to be found before the time to take up the prize passes, the interaction information will indicate the date when the winner will be contacted and the Promoter will contact such winner on the phone number (or other method of contact (if appropriate)) they provided, calling three times in a three-hour daytime period or as indicated in the interaction information.

5.3.Time sensitive: Where the prize must be taken up by a date which is more than 3 months but less than 12 months after the close date of the competition, unless otherwise stated in the interaction information the Promoter will contact the winner on the phone number (or other method of contact (if appropriate)) they provided, calling at different times on weekdays and at least once at the weekend over a two week period or as indicated in the interaction information.

5.4.In the event that the winner cannot be contacted or successful contact is not made within the time periods set out in clauses 5.1 to 5.3 above (as applicable) or if the winner fails to provide an address for delivery of the prize or fails to meet any of the eligibility requirements or is otherwise unable to comply with the interaction terms and conditions, this may result in forfeiture of the prize and the Promoter reserves the right to disqualify that entrant (without further liability to that entrant) and offer the prize to the next eligible entrant and thereafter until a winner is found.

5.5.Any entrant and/or winner must comply with any directions given to him or her by the Promoter, prize provider(s) and/or their agents and with all relevant laws, rules and regulations, restrictions, itinerary, and where applicable, compliance with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code. Failure to comply with instructions, itineraries, rules, restrictions, requirements, laws and guidelines may result in an invalid entry and/or forfeiture of the prize.

One winner received one e-mail when they could not be contacted by phone (they did not receive any follow up e-mails), I would not rely on that happening again.

Prizes
The Promoter or prize provider(s) endeavour to deliver the prize to the winner within twenty eight (28) days from the date of winner confirmation unless stated otherwise in the interaction information.
Where the prize includes a cheque, voucher or giftcard, such prize will be made payable in pounds sterling in the name of the winning entrant only

Payment of cash prizes.

Payments are made by cheque and have taken anything from 1 to 6 weeks or more to arrive (based on info in other threads).

Only taking part of a prize
we would not require any winner to take up all elements of the prize should they choose not to take up a certain prize element (although we reserve the right to ask the winner to confirm this in writing).

"Seem to be lots of Real Deal winners compared to This Morning etc."

That's certainly because there are usually at least 5 and up to 26 or so Real Deal competitions for every one of the others, I also think the larger prizes attract more entries through Text/Phone (I know people who pay to enter ((they have been told!)) who only do so when it is a large cash prize/car etc, they don't do the smaller ones) while £2,000 or £20,000 probably doesn't make much difference to the number entering through the internet as they will be entering them all anyway.

(Real Deal generally has 5 or 6 comps a week when it is on air while the others have one a week, often one a fortnight or even one a month.)

Winner selection (Totally random regardless of entry method)
ITV operates an independently developed winner selector tool under licence from a third party.
This is known as 'Winner Selector’ and is a market leading solution used for managing many
competitions across the UK. The Winner Selector works by taking in all entries to a competition
from each entry route, and assigning a unique random number to every entry. This is done
independently of the original entry method, and assures that each entry has the same chance of
being selected, irrespective of the method of entry.

    Channel 4

A bit of Channel 4 comp info
    20. Winners and runners up will be selected at random by a computer process that produces verifiably random results from all the entries, usually within 7 days of the PRS Competition closing. Once selected we will verify the winner / runners up have answered the question correctly. If they have not an alternative winner/ runner up will be selected. Winners will be contacted by a Channel 4 representative who will make reasonable endeavors to contact each winner using the contact details provided at entry within 21 days from selection of the winner(s). For runners up, Channel 4 will make reasonable endeavours to contact each runner up using the contact details provided at entry within 7 days from selection of the runners up. Should we be unable to contact the winner(s) or runner up after the relevant time period has lapsed, another winner or runner up may be selected at Channel 4’s discretion. For time critical prizes the windows for contacting winners and runners up may be reduced and this will be specified in the Competition Information and/or on PRS Competition Notice.

Total Number of entries (just a guess but more likely hundreds of thousands upwards rather than tens of thousands)
During a four year period from 2003 to 2007 GMTV received 62 million competition entries, that's equal to 15.5 million a year, almost 300,000 a week or over 42,500 a day

If ITV just aim to break even on the phone-in competitions then the big ones would need over 100,000 paid for entries alone and then there are all the free entries which will probably be many times whatever the paid number is.

ITV's interactive revenues, primarily raised from competitions and phone voting around ITV1 programmes, were £30 million in 2009 (2008: £34 million). There were almost 100 million viewer interactions, entries to competitions and votes across the year. The X Factor final alone generated over 10 million votes, up 28% year-on-year.

If you have more than one phone number as they rules state only 3 or 6 entries per phone number provided, are you able to enter (potentially) unlimited times?

[STRIKE]Yes, the limit is per phone number as it says in the first post[/STRIKE]
usually up to 3 or 6 times per phone number entered online or by text or call, if you have more than 1 number then you can enter each of them up to 3 or 6 times etc.

In addition to any limit per number there is now an overall limit of 29 entries from any one entry platform

No way to "validate" after its over that I know of but the procedures in place should mean all valid entries are counted (there were problems a few years ago and things were tightened up a lot as a result).

ITV have called from 020 numbers, they may have called from number withhelds but if people don't answer they will never know.

From memory the mortgage/rent ones require it in place before the competition starts

Looked at the last 3 (which all had £10,000 cash as well) which all said -
Entrants must have an existing mortgage in accordance with a valid written mortgage agreement in respect of their main residence located in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands or Isle of Man or be paying rent in accordance with a valid written tenancy agreement in respect of a property located in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands or Isle of Man and have made all payments due at the time of entering the Competition. The Promoter will not pay any mortgage arrears or unpaid rent existing at the time of entering into the Competition.

Just noticed a question on another thread about whether someone might have won one of the ITV questions, and was wondering whether we might include the Winners URL on this thread?
