Littlefred's bid for mortgage freedom!

A seriously long time lurker here who has finally decided to give this diary malarkey a go!

I'm 27 and its me and my 2 cats in the house and I see this staying this was for the foreseeable future! I bought my house in July 2009 with the mortgage of £103000 finishing in July 2034 and a loan from the bank of mum and dad as when I said I wanted to buy a flat my mum's words were 'you're not buting a flat, I'll lend you the money to but a house'. Ok so house bought and I usually have a lodger (not atm) to pay back my mum and dad. Mum has said to put any extra money I have to the mortgage although I'm not sure my dad agrees!

So far I have been a part of the MFiT3-T2 and as of September my mortgage stands at £87315 with and my MF date currently September 2028 but I'd love to be MF when I'm 40 so that is April 2025 so that is one of my aims atm. I'm definitely a long hauler!

I'm also currently studying for a part time masters to allow me to get a promotion (not a given by a long shot) and work are kindly paying for three quarters of it, so I need to find the rest otherwise they will take it out of my wage packet and I'll be living on bread and water for a few months. I'm also having to pay for my travelling expenses but the lovely bank of mum and dad are adding this to my loan I already have with them. They are sooo good to me :A. So to get my quarter of my 2 years I need to have £1400. Last year this would have been a lot easier as I had a pay cut of £8000-10000 per year in April from going to a shift system from on call yet I still do all the unsociable hours and as more people are leaving I seem to be doing more. Even I object to working 10 out of 12 weekends which is what I'm doing at the moment!

Ah well onwards and downwards as they say.

Hi littlefred - what is the Masters in?

Your parents sound like gems :A Mine are lovely, but they had far too many kids to help us out financially :rotfl:
  • Hello,

Hi Littlefred, thanks for reading my diary and I'm glad you started one :D

  • Hi LittleFred... I'm glad you took the plunge and started a MFW diary.

I lost patience with Amazon and Green Metropolis for selling books and flogged them at a car boot sale just before the summer - handy because a few people said they were looking for their holiday reads (of course I told them every book they picked up was an excellent read!).

  • Hi MRN

My books are my old uni books so I don't think they'd do too well at a carboot but I've not had much luck with fiction. My uni books are getting quite old now so I guess I'll try and find something online to see if they'll take them even if it's a small amount as every penny helps as they say and they won't be cluttering up my house anymore.

You could perhaps try Zapper if you haven't already? They only pay pennies, but they are straightforward to deal with and pay the postage. I would be inclined to leave them on Amazon if they are specialist science books though - I sold quite a lot once I had finished my PhD, though some took quite a long time.

Zapper also take cds and dvds btw, so good if you are decluttering (I did last year, getting ready to move :))

Good luck with your journey x
