Halifax Mortgage Query

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has some experience with the same scenario, i am facing. Almost 1 year ago Lloyd closed my current account by giving me 65 days notice. Please bear in mind my account never froze. Lloyd only close the account after 65 days. They mention in the closure letter that if i open account in Lloyds, Halifax or BOS in future they reserve the right to close it.

Now i was looking for mortgage through a broker and i had told him that in past Lloyd closed my account so they might not give me a mortgage but he still went ahead and successfully got AIP from halifax. Now the dilemma is if i go with full application, is it possible halifax will reject the mortgage solely due to Lloyds account being closed?

    It's possible, yes.
  • hmm disappointing. Is there any way i can confirm from halifax before making full application. also if full application is rejected how much it will have impact with other lenders.

Why not just use another lender, one that isn’t Halifax or part of the Lloyds banking group.
There are many other lenders out there...

A Lender does not close an account unless you are causing them complications. Why would Halifax welcome you back for new business so soon afterwards.

  • It is because of 2 reasons. First i am on Tier 2 Dependent Visa secondly i am self employed. So my lender choice are limited.

Well mortgage and current account are 2 different things. So i thought they might be ok to give mortgage.
Regardinf why account was closed it might be because i had to do international transfers and they might not be comfortable with it.

My gut instinct would be to look elsewhere. If there is nowhere else that will lend then you may as well cross your fingers and carry on as you have nothing to lose.
  • Just to update, i got full mortgage application approved from Hali.
