Notre Dame is destroyed by fire - for real!

I'm sorry, I know it's not comping related, but I thought compers might want to know, as it is happening right now.

What a dreadful loss to the world. At least they're saying no known casualties - as yet anyway.

Not sure why it feels so sad, but it does. I guess it pales beside the 30th anniversary of Hillsborough also in the news today.
Back in 2014 we went to Paris in the spring, (A win :) !) and enjoyed some glorious weather. I was a bit worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype, but we loved it and always planned to return.
On our very last day, we had the morning free before catching the Eurostar home. In the Palais du Luxembourg there was a temporary exhibition to celebrate the first maps and on the railings around was a photographic memorial inspired by 100 year anniversary since the outbreak of WW1. We decided to enjoy the sunshine and visit these on the basis that Notre Dame would still be there when we returned... :(
Worse things will have happened in the world today...

Very little shocks me but this did.

Notre Dame is a symbol of Paris and of France itself. So sad.

My daughter lit a candle for Cistolic (a comper who died) at Note Dame just after she passed away.

Luckily the majority of the structure and relics inside were saved. It was mostly the roof and spire that were destroyed.
