Widening access training scheme query

Hello guys,
some time ago I completed a course whilst working in the NHS.
Last year it was brought to my attention of the widening access training scheme which would have meant I should have not been paying taxes and NICs
I have asked my employer to submit a claim on my behalf and I have received a letter today saying I am due a refund of NICs of 896 pounds.
The course started on 1/9/2018 and it finished on 16/1/11.
The letter I received today says I should have not paid NICs or 2009/2010 and for 2010/2011. And what about 2008/2009?
Does the fact I was on maternity leave for 9 months during the course period means the claim should discount the 9 months?
Many thanks

Your dates don't quite work so I suspect a typo somewhere, but the people to ask are the letter writers.
It's possible 2008/09 is out of time but this is outside my area of expertise. Your employer will know.Signature removed for peace of mind0
