I have a friend, who doesn't have an income, but has done some casual work this year. She did think it would be less than £1000 and therefore wouldn't have to do anything about declaring it.
It has now gone over £1000.
Any advice on what she needs to do? how to declare it? Is there a need to become self employed. She thinks she may earn nearly £3000 this year.

Yes, self assessment will be needed. No tax will be due however.0

Does she claim any benefits as these may be affected by her self employed income.0
