Stolen Twitter account

Just had notice that someone is using my name and profile picture to impersonate. They have claimed an Amazon gift card which I won yesterday. Please be aware and watch out.

  • How do you prevent that?
I hope you can get your prize somehow.

But if they tagged you in the competition, they shouldn't be able to claim the prize as you would have got the notification. I would send a message to the company to explain.

Expecially if they have tagged your @ not just using your name.

I approached the company by their web contact page and have just received this......I’m really fed up!
    Hi

    Thanks for the email.

We noted that the accounts have been suspended, but unfortunately we have no
way of telling which account is genuine and which is not.
We have therefore decided to offer the prize to another person.
I'm sorry that this may come as a disappointment to you, but we offered the competition in good faith and do not wish to be caught up in any potential account scam activity.

i've seen people do it for as little as £10 before, tbh it's not a difficult scam to do and is one of the reasons why i wish companies would DM people as well as publicly announce them.

    for example

ikkle87 ikkIe87 would both look the same as a username but one has a lower case L and one has a capital I

I would be tweeting them back to complain as it isn't your fault that someone has created an account identical to you to claim your prize and seems so unfair them offering the prize to someone else.
Are they even allowed to give it to someone else? I don't think they are.
Let us know if you tweet them and we can comment and retweet your tweet.

I assumed from post #4 that the posters account is suspended

otherwise if it was competition with a retweet/tweet with # etc then all the company have to do is go to the winning entry, click on the profile, that will take them to the profile of the correct person and they can deal with from there by DM etc.
