Apparently it looks much better on the TV news if there is no sea of 'cancelled' on the departure boards....

I use a 'key' contactless ticket and now get regular emails telling me they have made my delay repay claim automatically - progress of a sort but it would be better if the trains ran on time (or at all) in the first place.
    I think....

The disruption has been dreadful and is set to continue for at least another month according to staff. Surprised MSE didn't pick this up sooner but glad they are on the case now.

PS Your article suggests people look at the proper timetables to work out delays. However GN have confirmed via their Twitter that it is only against the emergency timetable shown on journey planners. Which is difficult when trains are disappearing! I can't share images here but have saved snapshots of them saying this.

    Hello Lavendyr.

Just had a butcher's, and according to this tweet by Great Northern from earlier this afternoon, you can claim against the full timetable: https://twitter.com/GNRailUK/status/1002196573198209025

On the Lakes Line that runs from Oxenholme to Windermere every single train today has been cancelled by Northern.

And if you look on National Rail journey planner it looks like every train has been cancelled next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

And there is talk of every train being cancelled for 2 months.

It is extraordinary that this nonsense is being allowed to happen :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

For the last two weeks I haven't used any of the official timetables or rail company info on day of travel. I am yet to have a morning service run on time.

Earlier this week my service was supposedly on time, yet a quick look at realtimetrains showed it departed the station of origin 5 minutes late and was 7 minutes late into the station before mine.

I delayed leaving home, yet when I arrived at the platform it was still saying on time, yet it was 3 minutes after it was due.

We were told it was 10 minutes late just as it arrived.

Best thing for Northern is to introduce an emergency timetable to run until December when a revised timetable is due.

If Chris Grayling was actually doing his job this is what he would be telling them to do.

The Manchester area is a complete shambles, but this knocks on to the whole of the north as far too many long distance services are now calling at Manchester Victoria, Oxford Road and Airport. One delay at any of those stations and dozens of services are affected.

Latest news is that it has been confirmed there will be no trains running at all on the Lakes Line from Oxenholme to Windermere for the next 2 weeks :(

This is a major transport link into the Lake District and we are right into the tourist season.

How on earth can Northern be allowed to do this and get away with it. It is too silly for words. But that is what is being allowed to happen.

There is an urgent need for the line to be nationalised.

Northern clearly have not covered themselves with glory concerning their new timetables but you are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think nationalising it will assist.

That has to be contender for understatement of the year award :rotfl:

That you describe no trains at all running at all in some areas over an extended period this way, suggests that you are the one having a giraffe.

Look at countries in Europe such as Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Spain and France where the rail networks are mainly publicly owned.

The overall quality of rail travel in these countries is far better than this country and fares are generally lower. I don't think those countries are particularly envious of the fragmented mess of a system we have here.

And what happened when the East Coast line was re-nationalised, shock horror the service improved and profits were even returned to the taxpayer.

Whether nationalisation will ever happen I don't know. But it is pretty clear it would improve things dramatically in my view.
