Noddle report showing default

Hi all,

I am trying to work out who I owe money too. I have put two disputes in on an account through noddle in the last 3 years, namely Shop Direct Finance Company. The dispute has been rejected and remains on my credit file. I have asked Noddle to send me the account details so I can contact the company I supposedly owe money too but they have never returned with anything. According to the report the Default occurred 15/03/2010 so 5 years ago, its only £302 so really want it gone. I have never received a letter from anyone asking for the monies owed either. Any ideas ??

Thanks in advance

Did you owe shop direct group of companies for debts these could be?

You should be writing to Shop Direct as well if you dispute the entries.

It should show you the name of the creditor on your file, you will be better off writing to the creditor, rather than expecting Noddle to do anything.

Thanks for the replies, it says shop direct finance company ltd as the lender and account type as mailorder, just seems strange that ive never had anything from them in the last 5 years.

If not yours, complain to shop direct. Be warned, they are utterly useless and doubt you will get anywhere. But, if they fail to respond or fob you off, you can escalate to the FOS.

Could it be yours from before then but have a later default date?

I believe it is mine from an old Littlewoods account my wife had taken out in my name. From my credit report I only have the last 5 digits of the account, just seems nobody knows anything about it. Surely the fact that Noddle denied my dispute then they should have details about it ???

Noddle will ask shop direct if its correct, they will say yes and that's the end of the matter. Dispute is hardly the word...

I doubt you will get rid of it if its yours.

Are you wanting to pay it? even if you do, it will stay for 6 years from the default date. It will just show as settled.

Yes I wanted to pay it, as I dont like having a default on my account. Just seems a mission to get anyone to tell me how to pay it lol

Write to shop direct, headed complaint, include a copy if the credit file entry, your address DOB etc, then state you want to pay it.

No response after 8 weeks, call the FOS.

You could also get the FOS to help you complain, less likely to be ignored.

It will then show as settled, but will still be on your credit file.

    Good look.

Thanks for the advice, my wife has just asked, what would happen if I just left it ?? would it just remain on my credit file as a default forever ? Like she says, if they cant be bother to ask for the money back then why pay it ??

Defaults last for six years from the date of the default on your record. Once the six years is up, it drops off your record. if the company who you think you owe money to chases your for the debt and it has been more than six years since you made any payment or acknowledged you owe the debt in any way, then it is likely to be "statute barred" and therefore an unenforceable debt.

Whether you pay the amount outstanding or not, the default will remain on your credit file until the six years are up. If it were me, I would be tempted to leave it until the six year point and see if ShopDirect contact me before then, at which point I would consider settling for a lower amount if I could afford to.
