Fri 23rd Aug: What DFW Things Will You Be Doing Today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:
Morning Debt-Free Wannabe Jedis,
Sorry, it's me again. Today's another stay-at-home-and-spend-zilch day, but I'll be keeping busy.
LPP: I answered your calendar question, yesterday here. (Link)
The List:
:www: Repair feet on drinks coaster again instead of buying a new one.
:www: Last effort at Job-seeking before the weekend.
:www: Tend house-plant and home-grown cut flowers. Free beauty!
:www: Re-watch "Hotel Transylvania" DVD from free trial DVD rental at Blockbuster online. (Link) Great film! Set a reminder in my phone to tell when to cancel the trial to avoid payment starting. We have recently started checking all our DVDs for the Extra Features; amazing what you find, sometimes there are extra episodes or extra short films hidden in there unwatched.
:www: Tidy and clean food and crockery cupboard. This could be a big job! When we moved in we sort of threw a lot of things in there and abandoned them!
Everywhere else is so neat and organised it sticks out like a sore thumb. Need to see if we're missing any goodies buried in there amongst all the empty jars OH has been squirreling away. There must be 50 of them.
:www: Come to think of it the hut/shed could do with a tidy too...Done, tools from the indoor tool cupboard put back where they belong, so we don't think they've vanished and buy more.
:www: Think of something free to do this weekend that doesn't use too much petrol.
:www: OH wants to buy a lawnmower for £31. Need to see if we can afford it. Do we need it. Yes! Can we afford it? Nope. Sorry OH!
:www: Asked bank to send us R85 forms so that we can claim tax-exemption on our savings for being on a low-income. You can use this HMRC checker to see if you can get the interest taken off your savings. (I know you can get Tax Free ISAs but my non-ISA pays better interest.) (Link)
Offers:
:www: 15% off at Homebase online and in-store Sat/Sun/Mon. This also applied in Scotland where it's not a Bank Holiday. (Link) (Link2)
:www: Free children's Graze box. You can get this even if you've previously had a free trial. Card details required. (Link)
Freebies:
:www: Free perfume sample. (Link)

Thanks for starting us off again!
Hope the job hunting goes well!
Well, we are off to soft play this morning, we have free passes to get in and I'm taking a bottle of water. Determined not to buy anything there. Will take a fruit pouch for each for the kids.
Then it's slow cooker pork that I bunged in last night for lunch with veg
Might see if nan wants to come round this afternoon and then I'm seeing mum at 4 so hopefully a cheap day
I need to
Check free postcode lottery
Check eBay
Fill in a survey for hobbycraft to win £100
Have a look at nectar appoints (I joined yesterday)
Hopefully do 2 soups for the weekend tonight and chocolate chilli along with the sewing of labels in school uniform I didn't get done yesterday!

Morning ally, thanks for starting us on this sunny Friday:beer:
I am still feeling like a very happy mum as my eldest got her gcse results yesterday...she got 3 As, 4 Bs, 2 Cs and 1 D...she was very pleased, and surprised! We went for a celebratory meal yesterday which set me back £30, but it was lovely and she deserved a treat:)
So, today...here's my list:- Check onepoll
- Check banking
- Get Next returns parcelled up and arrange pick up
- Hoover house
- Off to my mums later so being fed for the weekend
- Check eBay listings
- List my holiday euros on eBay...they did sell for a good price but the guy wanted them sent to an unconfirmed address, I said no, so he disappeared grrr:mad:
- Put petrol in car
Should be an NSD, apart from the petrol. We're away at my mums for 2 bigs, then my sis on Sunday...so shouldn't spend much and were being fed:T
Happy Friday everyone:):)I really need to sort out a new signature!0 -

Morning Lovelies!!
Treated myself to a little lie-in this morning as I'm working til 4am!! Boo!
Today's list goes like this:Morning up allotment finishing off the shed base and levelling out the ground!
OH making cakes and cottage pie for the boys at work tonight (better than our usual Friday late-late kebab and we have some shopping budget left, so might as well treat my most important men!)
Check banking and skim final amounts into savings - I'm working flat-out over BH until payday anyway so should be fine!!
Work 5pm-4am - lift share and take grub as always! Likely work late tonight if it's busy in the city so hoping for a little cheeky overtime there!!
Need to wash body armour on a hot wash with lots of conditioner after a rather disgusting job last night - not so MSE - but has to be done!! Ergh!
Think that's about it - aiming for another NSD which should be fine as meals from stores and nothing needed until payday really... Finger's crossed!!
Have a great day everyone! xxx:T DEBT FREE AS OF APRIL 2013! :T"I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul"0 -
Hello Everyone - mind if I join in - am aware that I get very excited at payday - make some over payments then spend the rest of the month wishing my life away. Need to keep focused that its the little things everyday that will really make the difference
So today I will be
- resetting the timings for the hot water have a horrible feeling that its on about 8 hours a day at the moment:eek:
-menu planning and doing my grocery shop online - the delivery charge is more than worth it as I usually spend £30-40 less than if I head in store.

Happy Friday, Money Savers,
Expected to wake up feeling disgustingly hormonal but in fact felt quite chipper & have had an attack of Doing-Stuff-itis!! A few useful little bits on the MSE front:
*Froze the leftover lentil & tomato soup I made for yesterday's lunch.
*Gathered another basket of produce from the garden, mostly tomatoes today.
*Threaded another 3 big red chillies onto the string I've got hanging up to dry.
*Meals as per meal plans - mr f's cooking night, he's making potato wedges from his home grown potatoes & serving with something from the freezer.
*Bathroom sink draining slowly again. Treated it to a basin of boiling water with soda crystals (Its last major blockage required a plumber who then required £95 as it took him 3 hours to take all the pipework apart, including dismantling the bath....all the time regaling me with the sorry state of his love life.....)
*Used the rest of the boiling water with a blob of Stardrops to clean the fridge as I made the mistake of looking in it while wearing my glasses & discovered it was looking like a bit of a Salmonella Sally.
*While on knees in fridge, removed all the oddments which looked like they needed using, collected up odds & sods of different vinegars & sugars in pantry, rounded up another bowl of windfall apples & made some chutney.
*Mascara had gone dry so stood tube in mug of boiling water to soften it up again. This tip courtesy of Jackie magazine circa about 1977, but it works! Is mascara essential? Yes. I don't even hang the washing out without it!!
Still to do:
*Write a Very Tight Shopping List Indeed for tomorrow.
*Water veggie garden, esp baby lettuces which are looking less than happy with life.
*Pick a few more free blackberries which are now poking through from neighbours' gardens on BOTH SIDES! Yippee!
*See if Homebase has the pipe insulating tubing in stock so as to make use of the 15% off this weekend.
Have a good day everyone & keep fighting the system.....those pennies are better off in your pocket than somebody else's!
