QED....everyone is innocent and it's always 'the management'.

No, not always at all. There are generally two sides to every story.

This is very true! I know a chap who called his manageress a "f***ing c**t" in front of colleagues and customers (it was in a bank). He genuinely couldn't understand why he had been sacked.... :(

Perhaps she was! It would be an appropriate description for some bank managers!

More seriously though, not too tactful really!

He would have been better playing the long game and seeing if he could give her enough rope to hang herself!

There is normally actually 3 sides to every story, yours, theirs and the truth!!!

They are normally all very different!!!!!

Certainly was for mine! She was a stuck up b!tch who didn't give a damn about the branches screwed up service that cost me over a grand to put right.

Still credit where credit is due, when I made a formal complaint she offered cash compensation for me to go away instantly.

Not been sacked although I have felt like I wanted to be so I could be free from working for the employer.

Ever considered that the manager was harassing them, that is why they were off with stress and that they are fully entitled to compensation for the disgraceful way the firm has treated them?

Yes i have considered it, and certainly on occasions this may be the case. Most situations will have a degree of blame on both sides i would suggest. There are undoutedly however a number of times when i have seen employees simply using this as a card they can play to try and prolong a process and to get some financial reward from the situation.

I mention it as an observation of a trend that is more prevalent. Clearly each situation needs investigating fully and you cannot pre judge. I have noticed increasingly however that this kind of situation seems to arise as a way to try and manipulate a payment

Given that anybody off sick for more than a week will have a doctor's certificate, it always amazes me why some HR people feel themselves better qualified to judge somebody's state of heath.

A doctor diagnoses things such as stress, depression or anxiety on the basis of a discussion with an employee. It is not difficult to obtain a doctors note. On occasions an employee may well be stressed, but it could well be because they know dismissal is imminent due to their behaviour!

I take ill health seriously, companies should look to support individuals through it. I highlighted though that clearly there is a population that try it on, recognising the benefit it may give them to do so.

I wasn't sacked from my last as such, they just didn't renew my contract (due to under performing). Though all credit where it is due, they did give me 5 months notice (to find a new, and I only needed to give 1 weeks notice), and they did help me with finding another job (they where a company that help disabled people find work).
