IIRC Midland Bank went Bankrupt in the early 90s & were bailed out by HSBC but kept on trading as Midland for several years0 -
Nah it was far from bankrupt. Midland Bank was always a very well run company (owned Forward Trust, Swan National and Thomas Cook amongst others). HSBC bought a 14.9% share in 1987 and completely took over in 1992. Name was changed to HSBC in 1999 but they adopted the 'Hexagon' logo a few years prior to the name change.0
