200 Day Free DVD Rental

As you may know, loads of companies who offer online rentals allow you try it out for 14 days, 15 days and sometimes 30 days - completely free of charge.

http://www.freemovierental.co.uk lists all of them available in the UK.

If you joined 1 today, and when the free trial ended, joined another and so on and so on, then you would never have to pay to hire a DVD until 23 June 2005 :D

This is before using those companies that offer 'Buy 1 month, get 2nd free' !!
Confused!

soiunds good for anyone who'd remember
  • I guess this is a new site as the entire forum only contains one message. And there are a couple of glaring spelling mistakes on the site (e.g. "Which Online DVD Trail Should I Choose?" and "Free Moive Rental").

http://www.dvdtrials.co.uk has been round longer and seems better to me. It also claims 350+ days of free trials.

Plus there's no mention of the 44 day free trial with LoveFilm on the site!

But... no harm in having lots of dvd free trial sites!

I must say, I am a bit dissapointed by some of the 'this is too much hastle' type comments from some of readers of this site.

If like me, you watch around four movies a week (yep, movie buff, I know), then these free trials are well worth it. I'm gonna save hundreds of pounds over the next year, instead of paying over 3 quid a time in blockbuster.

In fact it's less hastle than having to go down to local rental shop as the movies are posted straight to your door. Plus it's dead easy to cancel via the web sites of these companies.

This is one of the bast money saving tips I've come across. :)

True... but when compared to Pay Per View, it's still more involved, because you have to post the DVD back.

Personally, I never rent DVDs... I don't see the point in paying £50+ per month for all the cable TV channels and then paying out again just to rent a DVD!

I used to rent videos before satellite came along because there was very little choice in the four TV channels we had then. But nowadays, there's almost always something worth watching on TV purely because we have so many channels available.

  • Why pay over £50 per month for sky, its all repeats, have freeview, costs nothing, and rent dvds, cost approx £14 a month, you can get about 25 to 30 dvds a month if you do it right, and the postage is free.

I tend to agree with you Nick. Even better, the online rental choice is huge. It's not just movies, but whole TV series, music and just about anything that's ever been released on DVD. (Plus, I don't have to wait 6 months for the films to appear on Sky/cable)

Oh, and games for playstation 2 and xbox are starting to appear. With no late return fees I can play them until I'm bored with them. That's another 40 quid saved. ;D

Why do I pay for Sky?

    1) Premiership Football and other sport
    2) Plenty of new stuff from the US, not just repeats
    3) I can't get Freeview where I live
    4) I don't watch 25 movies a month.. 4 if I'm lucky!
    5) Nothing wrong with repeats - I don't have time to watch TV for hours every day, so most of the repeats are stuff I've never seen. And I love watching shows from 20 years ago which I didn't see because I wasn't living in the UK.

  • To be honest, I don't find it hard to remember these things at all, because I write everything down in my diary anyway, (dates my library books are due, credit card offers ending, my childrens' social calendar, appointments, relatives' birthdays, etc. I need to look at it at least once a day, most days, to see if there's anything I have to do.

My diary is one of the most important documents in my house; I'm useless without it!

People occasionally remark that I seem well-organised, but I always say that I'm not. It's because I'm not well-organised that I have to organise myself - if you see what I mean. :)

Proverb: Organisation is the last resort of the terminally dis-organised.
