Hello to everyone.
i need you knowledge

i became permanent resident in UK within the tax year 2017/2018 -

- how much is my annual allowance of tax free income?
- do i have the full amount tax free - or only partially from the month i arrived in UK?

for the first months I was paid weekly and now monthly in case this matters.
could i transfer any "unused" allowance to the next tax year?

cheers and many thanks in advance.

  • If you are entitled to the UK Personal Allowance then it is £11,500 for 2017:18.

It isn't apportioned but could theoretically be less than £11,500 if your "adjusted net income" was over £100,000. Google adjusted net income for more details if you think this may be relevant to you.

You cannot transfer any of your Personal Allowance to a different tax year.

If you are electing the remittance basis, the personal allowance will be nil.

If you don't know what it means then don't worry, as clearly you won't be electing to pay on that basis!

if i would post my P60 here - could anyone tell me if i overpaid INcome tax?
  • No.

But if you post your P60 details and tell us about all other taxable income you have received in the year then yes.
