In order to give the old brain a workout this Christmas, rather than letting it slip into a slump, we thought you might like to try your luck at identifying a selection of seasonal quotes. Some are easier than others, but as a literature lover we’re sure you’ll get them all!
All you need to do is identify the book from which each Christmas related quote is taken and enter the answers in the box below.
  1. “Bah!” said Scrooge. “Humbug!”
  2. At Christmas I no more desire a rose Than wish a snow in May’s new-fangled shows; But like of each thing that in season grows.
  3. I had called upon my friend Sherlock Holmes upon the second morning after Christmas, with the intention of wishing him the compliments of the season.
  4. The story had held us, round the fire, sufficiently breathless, but except the obvious remark that it was gruesome, as, on Christmas Eve in an old house, a strange tale should essentially be…
  5. At last the anchor was up, the sails were set, and off we glided. It was a sharp, cold Christmas; and as the short northern day merged into night, we found ourselves almost broad upon the wintry ocean, whose freezing spray cased us in ice, as in polished armor.
One lucky winner will receive £100 of National Book Tokens.
Two runners-up will each receive a £25 National Book Token.

Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Birmingham Childrens Hospital caring for my tiny and very poorly grandson who was born at 29 weeks. Thanks to them he is getting a little stronger every day.:A:A:A

And, in case they are really fussy, put an apostrophe in Love's Labours Lost.
