It's not unusual to have a big loss in the first week of a diet*. You should feel pleased :) but also concentrate on long term healthy eating changes.

    Best of luck.

*Just things like drinking more water and eating more veg will do this, if they are new habits.
  • thanks hun 4 ur replie, dont get me wrong if i have lost that much then i'm happy, but i have a nigggle feeling that i carnt put my finger on about ww.

Is your butt visibly smaller in the mirror. If so you have lost weight. If not keep trying
Who I am is not important. What I do is.
  • You lost 5lbs overnight . . . share the secret !!!
I would be inclined to beleive that the scales are wrong the the doctors ones are right

WW always calibrate their scales each session.

If you are worried speak to your WW woman
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

A lot of scales do not tally with another set. There is frequently a couple of pounds or so either way.

Also if either set was a dial scale then the dial might not have been directly on the 0 to start.

I'd find one set of scales and go by those to get an accurate picture of your weight loss in future.

Also your weight can change with fluid fluctuations day to day and also things like if you have eaten a large meal or so before hand. Also clothing differences can add a pound or two.

Best time of day to weigh is first thing in morning after trip to bathroom. This will give you a more accurate account of your weight and loss. But don't weigh daily!
  • Hello

I'm still doing the WW diet, but I stopped attending the meetings. The reason for this is that the scales were absolute rubbish. There was a few times I had went and was sure I had lost weight all over, everyone commented on it, my clothes were looser etc. and the woman would say I had put weight on! I couldn't explain it, and no other scales I stood on said I'd put anything on, and the girls I go to WW with said the same thing.

You're better off learning how to do the diet, doing it for a few weeks and going to the meetings and then seeing how you go on your own if you think you're up to it. I quite like doing it this way, as it means if I'm a little naughty one week and I DO put weight on, I don't feel like a giant failure and instead just make it right the next week. Some of the girls I know who go said they don't think they'd be able to do it without someone else knowing what weight they were, but it depends on the person I guess.

Good luck on the diet though. It's a good diet - a definite slow burner though unless you only eat 8 points a day and then do intense exercise for an hour every day! (Which burns... 8 points!) I've lost over a stone so far, though it's taken me a while to get here... the big plus is it really teaches you where you're going wrong with your food when you realise how many points are in certain foods. It's easier to ignore the kcal than the WW points for some reason! It will come off though, so kudos to you for joining. :)

My scales at home weigh me about 5lbs more than the body fat analysis scales at the gym.
I always go by my scales when I weigh myself weekly, even thou they are calibrated slightly incorrect it still shows that I have lost X lbs.

Also muscle weighs more than fat, so as you lose the fat but exercise you may not lose weight, but will find clothes fit better and you will lose inches. (Which is where a more expensive set of body fat scales are useful)
I keep a record of my tummy etc measurements too, some weeks I don't lose lbs but still lose inches

I would DEFINITELY agree with measuring inches. I go to the gym too and some times it can be disheartening if you holp on the scales and see you've lost nothing... well you only put on muscle weight and lost fat weight, so it's good, but it's hard to see it that way when you're working hard!

Keeping a diary, or a notebook, of your week to week arm, thigh, stomach and chest measurements is the way to go.

(Thanking you for that post, x_raphael_xx! I would have completely forgot to keep doing that otherwise!!)

I do Slimming World and my home scales match the SW scales within half a pound, so I trust the SW ones.
A few months ago, I'd hopped on my scales in the morning and then gone to a Drs appointment. I was asked to get on the scales and I weighed almost half a stone heavier
I queried this with the nurse, she got on the scales and agreed that they were way out.

If the WW scales are digital, then I don't see how they could be fixed to weigh you higher at your first session, just to show a big loss the first week. Otherwise all the class would have gained.

Good luck with the weight loss.
