What's the diff between Panasonic SD252 & 253?

Just compared them on the Panasonic site but there doesn't seem to be any difference apart from the dimensions.

Anyone?

Our local Robert Dyas has the 252 so I was thinking about getting it (and then finding out what a beginner needs to put in it!)

Thanks

I think the 253 has a nut and seed dispenser whereas the 252 doesn't.

  • Yup, you're quite right aliasojo, the 253 has an automatic fruit/nut/seed dispenser which means you can leave the machine totally alone from hitting the "start" switch and it will do everything it's programmed to do and deliver up a lovely fresh-cooked loaf when it's finished, whereas with the 252 model you have to sit around waitiing for the bleeps to tell you when it's time to add any fruit/nuts/seeds to your recipe.

The only choice is which one fits better to your lifestyle and requirements :D

We have the nut dispenser one and my mum has the cheaper model without this feature. If you intend to make lots of loaves with raisons, nuts etc. get the better one. If not, don't bother and save yourself £20 or whatever. We have used the dispenser once!! Both models make an excellent loaf of bread and I can highly recommend them!

I can certainly vouch for that!!!! :D

After bugging Allexie for a cinnamon & raisin loaf recipe the other day, I checked her recipe ingredients, to make sure I balanced the quantities up, against those in my Panasonic book when I came across the Spicy Fruit Loaf, which is basically the same recipe but under a different name  ... and it's got to be one of the best loaves I've ever made!!! ... even better than the malt loaf I did a few weeks back :D

  • SWMBO is making noises about a breadmaker.... I've narrowed down (thanks to here and sis-in-law) to the above models which appear to be more or less identical apart from:

    1. Gluten-free programme
    2. Raisin/nut dispenser

Now the first isn't a 'need' for us (we all eat gluten and like it lol) - nor is the second, unless it gets used for other additions (cheese ? onion ? chilli ?) What else does the nut/raisin dispenser get used for ? (He says eyeing up a £15-20 cost avoidance)

Can't find the exact post but I know this self-same question has been asked before, a search for panasonic brings up more posts than I can trawl at this time of night but it's in there somewhere!

The dispenser is used for things which would get mangled in the kneading process, AFAIK, and you can add them 'manually' on the 252 if you can be bothered. I've got the 252 but then I didn't expect to be doing anything fancy in it.

    Hiya,

I asked the same thing about 2 wekks ago and the general respose was that the 53's "bits" dispenser was worth the extra £20.

HOWEVER, a couple of very kind posters told me that Argoa currently has the Russell Hobbs Breadman Healthy Options on sale from £99.99down to £59.99 :j

I ran out and got one and its FAB. It comes with a "bits" dispenser, 13 hour programmable timer, 110 combinations, makes bread, cakes, jam, bagel dough, pizza dough andcomes with 25 recipe cards which include low carb etc. Mine also came with a free electric knife.

Its still on sale. Might be worth a look?
