Hi,
I want to REALLY celebrate my little ones 1st birthday this year as it was very touch and go that we had him and prob very unlikely we will hhave another...
Can anyone think of a great rememberable day for us and the family as he wont remember it obviously... But I want to get everyone together and do something, dont know what though...
Hopefully something that wont cost the earth...
Suggestions anyone?

How about a family get together? As you say your little one won't remember it. One thing that you can do (my parents did it for me) and that is to save all his 1st birthday cards - when he gets to Christmas get a Baby's First Christmas book and fill it with what he ate, what he liked best, the presents he received and photos of the day (I have still got mine and I am 46, plus I still have all my 1st birthday cards).
I hope you and he have a lovely time.0 -
Have a little party at your house, do some party food and make sure all the family are there.
Get the camera and video camera ready and record the entire thing!
Play with the little one all day, make sure theres nothing but smiles coming from his face.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -
Yeah you are all right, save teh expense for future years - and all the clothes he seems to need lol....
I may just put the bbq on and get ppl to bring some burgers or some salad - or is that being cheeky...
Im going to do that with his birthday cards and piccies, its such a good memorabilia idea in a nice album.0 -
....and plant a tree for him...he can watch it grow over the years. By the time he's old enough to know/care it should be well established.Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0

How about a scrap book or box of items from his 1st year?
You could put the video in the box of memories and ask people to write him a little note?:happyhear We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other.
If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you.

When you have the video camera out why dont you get everyone to record a message to the little fella? I wish I had done that with my own come to think of it!99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500

Collect a couple of newspapers on every birthday and an argos and clothes catalogue them away and bring them out when he is 18/21 and show how things have changed. My dd is 19 now and when she had her 18th she could not believe all the hair that we had or the clothes or the prices. old elecrtical goods just think what an ipod will look like in a couple of decades.0

I love the idea of getting everyone to write/record a message for little one to put away.
We did this at our wedding in 2003 and a few family members have since passed away which makes their messages even more treasured.
I think a BBQ at yours sounds great, and not cheeky at all to ask people to bring a bit of salad etc, in our experience the Gparents will want to do anything to be involved !0 -
It's one of my grandchildren's 1st in a fortnight. I don't see him very often due to the distance but when he was first born I wrote him a letter welcoming him to our weird and wonderful world and what to expect. At Christmas I wrote another and now his birthdays coming up I'll write some more, telling him of whats gone on since he was born (last years floods as they affected us a bit, this years earthquake) bits and pieces about what me and OH have done during the year, what we thought when we saw him at Christmas, that sort of stuff. His Mum is keeping them all for him for when he's older.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Not cheeky at all... You could make it a 'bring a dish party' you'll be swamped with food and it won't cost you anything! We always used to have a family BBQ for my neices birthday, it was a nice excuse to see everyone... Sadly she's a bit older now and wants parties with her friends... and DD birthday is usually cold and rainy so no BBQ's here!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
