preventing colours fading

Hi, Ive just bought my 2yr old dd her first quilt cover and its quite a strong turquoise colour with cupcakes and tea cups on. I was wondering if there is a way of making sure the colours don't fade too fast. I think ive heard something in the past about soaking it in salt water but i don't know how much salt, should the water cold or warm or how long to soak it for?
Or even if its a real tip? Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks in advance x Also, my vacuum has just packed up, so if anyone can recommend which one to get next, that would be great x

My mum soaks things in salt water (towels I think) - don't think quantities can be too critical, maybe a handful in a bucket? I'd soak probably overnight and then wash it.
Can't be just a rumour if there are two of them.0 -
Thanks for the reply, ive got it soaking over-night in cold salt water. Hope it helps, but i guess you never know cos you don't know what would have happened without soaking! If marriage means you fell in love, does divorce mean you climbed back out?:rotfl:0
