What about doing AQA, mystery shopping, online surveys, bar work for a change of pace. The money you have coming in is as you say not great, and I think that even if you do plan to go into business, you need something anything now to tide you over

ps you can ask for postal orders or cheque and that would mean you either have cash in your hand, or else you don't send out the item until the cheque is cleared

I know you say you don't want to teach any more, but have you considered private tuition? A totally different ball game to classroom teaching. As a qualified science teacher, you could easily command £25 to £30 per hour (probably more in the South East, I'm from the North and that's what I charge and have to turn away work). I appreciate this is the wrong time of year to suggest it, but maybe something to think about for September. The other thing I've done in the past to supplement our income is exam marking. You should be able to find the relevant contact details for that from the websites of any of the examining boards. Admittedly not the most fun job in the world, but it's temporary and it's money. You are supposed to have 2 years teaching experience but I didn't when I first did it 8 years ago. It depends how desperate they are, and in shortage subjects...
And although not nearly so lucrative as tutoring, I can second AQA. (That's how I found your thread... I was searching for AQA threads as I've just been accepted there myself.) The money may not be so good, but it looks like a fun, flexible, no-strings way to earn something during the lean (for me) summer months. They are still currently recruiting. I spend too long on the computer anyway so might as well get paid for it ;-)0 -
I can relate to your work situation. I'm in the south west, a primary school teacher and there is no work. I've given up onthe idea of teaching now but as you say, find i'm qualified for nothing! I'm night portering in a hotel to make ends meet and actually about to take a year out to become a mum....but that's another story.
What about chil;dren's centres? Angency work? Local councils that kind of thing? Apply and see. Also special needs teaching/out door adventure stuff look into that as it is teaching but with a spin and very different to a classroom environment---the thought of entering a classrtoom again brings me out in hives tooo.....
Good luck

Hi Italian Spinone and welcome to the Forum.
Firstly, please, don't be scared as with time and seeking the correct help (CCCS) you will get through all this even if things do appear bleak at the moment. It might help if you put a Statement of Affairs (SOA) on here, listing everything you spend over a year, but breaking it down to what you'd need to save/pay per month. We can then possibly help you by suggesting ways of helping with going about things differently and in general, cutting back so things are easier for you to handle.
One thing I would advise is that you contact CCCS as soon as possible and with their help get a plan of how you're going to get yourself out of debt - then - be honest with your OH, but don't rush in with "I'm in a heck of a mess and don't know what to do". Be upfront that you have debt problems - but - that with time there is a way out and present him with the solution, but do please be honest as he sounds a very sensible person and might just be able to help you more that you could think possible right now, give him the chance and trust him!
Please try to stop worrying as it won't help one little bit and it certainly won't get you to the winning post faster! Ask yourself what's the worse that can happen and get things into perspective, you'll start to relax more then - no point in not doing so! You need your sleep, all of us in the same situation do, that way we can think more clearly and see things for what they are, not what we imagine they will be, if.........
All the best and don't worry, there are so many others of us here just like you.

have you tried agencies such as kellys and Hays etc for temping clerical /data input or other jobs? I did that for a year when I finished uni - I know its only minimum wage but it might be worth a try.
Good luck

Hi Italian Spinone (do you have one by the way? Fab dogs!)
As everyone says don't panic - there are ways out of this and your debt is not insoluble. Your biggest problem at the moment seems to be cash flow - not that the debts don't need sorting but you can't do that until you have a budget to live on. Without that your debt will just increase. Can you post an SOA so that we can see exactly what the situation is? If you are on a low wage are you claiming everything you are entitled to? I don't know a lot about this but there is a website which can help - entitledto.co.uk.
You don't say what the business is that you are looking to set up but if you don't want to teach (every short term) then what kind of thing are you looking for? Part-time tutoring might be a good standby - pays well at least.
Good luck.0 -
even tho you don't want to teach its a case of needs must and its only going to be a temporary measure. if i were you i'd do anything so long as it paid the bills. you also need to be upfront with your boyfriend - even if he can't help and you don't want him to feel obliged he can at least offer moral support - a problem shared is a problem halved. i'm just glad in the grandscheme of things your debt isn't too big. don't know how anyone can live on around 350 per month so you must be living really frugally.
hope something turns up soon.0 -
Hello again, and thank you all for your replies. I'll try and reply to the comments raised.
1. Yes, we have an Italian Spinone, she's my OH's really, very cool dogs.
2. I have applied to agenices (Hays etc) and they wouldn't take me on, even temp stuff. They said I wasn't qualified for the type of jobs they were promoting
3. I've spoken to supply agencies and they said there is nothing now at this time of year available in my area
4. The business is an equestrian one. My OH and I are looking to start a yard producing competition horses. No cash outlay for this at the moment, as still in the planning/permission stage.
5. I have no cash flow at the moment. I've not been paid hyet from new job. OH has filled the car with diesel, horse is living out at a friends and costs nothing (apart from the farrier coming today so have had to ask OH to pay). OH pays when I do food shopping online. I can't remember the last time I had ANY money in my purse.
Been looking at everything I owe:
What I call 'proper' bills:
2 x Barclaycards = £1600 & £500
1 X first Direct o/d £700 (old account)
1 x barclays o/d £600 (new account)
Vodafone £222 (spoken and have arranged to pay half this month and half next, but how I don't know)
Studio £80
Simply Be £600
Other bills
I owe £75 to the woman who my horse belongs to (I have it on loan) for insurance
I owe £400 for livery bill whn I moved my horse from previous yard as too expensive.
I owe my mobile phone bill of £45 this month (though am on one of those claim back schemes which means I'll get a cheque for £56 in middle of June).
I owe £100 coal bill this is now 3 months overdue.
I think that is everything. Like I said I have NO cash at all. Bank keeps ringing and I keep avoidingI know I shouldn't but what can I tell them?
I've tried advertising for tutoring, but no takers (I tutor the daughter of the woman I keep my horse with in exchange for field). Now it's the wrong time of year. I applied for exam marking, but got turned downNobody wants me! I apply for jobs and everyone says I'm over qualified! What can I do!
My first thought is a consolidation loan, but no-one will touch me. My credit file is being bumped almost daily (i'm registered with equifax so I can see my file, though haven't dared look at it for ages). My only option for getting ANY money asap is either a loan with extortionate apr or prostitution!
I really don't know what to do.0 -
Am I correct in thinking you haven't yet been to the CCCS? You really do need to go and lay everything on the line to them as it's THEY who can help you MOST!
How about your OH, have you still not let him in on the extent of your debt? Please have a look at my previous post above.
Whether you're over qualified or not for jobs you really do NEED to get something very, very quickly before you get in a worse state. Please do as it's vital in order to get ahead and eventually get out of this mess.
All the best, but please do let us know the answers to the questions I've just asked.
