This excellent BBC adaptation of one of Charles Dickens’ most celebrated novels stars Jane Seymour, Leo McKern, Lesley Dunlop, John McEnery and Warren Clarke. The story centres on John Harmon who discovers that his inheritance is conditional upon his marrying Bella Wilfer, a girl he has never met. Harmon conceals his true identity to win her affections. Also seeking happiness is Lizzie Hexam who is the romantic bone of contention between two ardent suitors, a class-conscious triangle which culminates in tragedy. The two women eventually meet when Bella enters into an arranged, short-lived marriage with the owner of a refuse-recycling firm, a circumstance linked to Lizzie’s plight. This DVD release also includes cast filmographies, a Charles Dickens biography, bibliography and subtitles. This classic adaptation is now available on DVD from High Street stores or by calling the Acorn DVD hotline on 0845 123 2312. You could win one of three copies by answering this question:
In which year was this version of Our Mutual Friend first broadcast by the BBC?
:T 1976 :T (I think!)
