I only had a two hour window to take the kids blackberrying today, so I grabbed the tubs, loaded the kids in the car and drove off to my secret spot where not only were there blackberries galore but also elderberries, apples, plums and raspberries. Not anymore there's not!!!
This beautiful unspoilt patch with all it's wild life, free food, flowing stream etc. has been built on. 7 houses they have fitted on this little patch! I'm getting sick of this area, we had so much beauty around us and now even our greenbelt is being eaten away by builders. We have all these areas around the city with redundant factories that are falling down and dangerous, can they build on these sites? no!! They have to plough up our fields, fell our trees and destroy every beautiful thing in their path.
Can you tell I'm raging mad yet? Why do they have to do it. Do builders only look at land with an eye to profit? Can't they see the beauty they are destroying?

Hi Moggins, I hate seeing beauty disappearing under concrete, too, but I think the planners/Government are to blame more than the builders......thay are the ones who decide more building is needed and choose where to put it
So did you get any blackberries at all?[0 -
Oh moggins that is so sad
( All that beauty completely ripped out and ugle buildings put there.
Such a shame.:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0 -
I totally agree with the OP, when I was living with my parents we lived in a small village and our house backed onto open fields and its really pretty. The farmland is designated green belt but they have tried for planning permission many many times. Fortunately so far every time it gets knocked back because the people who live nearby rally round and get letter writing. Its a disgrace as you say that so many run down factories stand empty and they build on the beautiful countryside!!!0

That's sad moggins. I've just been blackberrying with my 2 not far from my house. There is a housing estate there built over last 10 years but they left the country lane there with all its wildlife and trees and plenty of blackberry bushes too.0

It is the sign of the time with more and more people preferring to live along rather than living together.
I think we need in this country to get better planning regs and also make more flats and get in to apartment living as they do in a lot of other countries cross the world. Also to get empty houses back in to use. Where I use to live there was a 3 bed detached that was empty for about 4 yearsmakes no sense. if they did not want to live there then at least rent it out and get some money.
Mind you if I could sell a few acres of land for building and get say £500K rather then having to work 12 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year out doors and be lucky to break even or make less than min wages of £4 what ever an hour. I know which one I would take.
When people use to say that the view was beautiful from grandfathers farm house across the fields he would say "Yes, But it don't pay the bills" And to right he was. It was hard work 365 days a year. Margins are so tight in farming that a loss of one animal could wipe all profit for the year. Nowdays it is about being a realist.
I do agree we need fields to keep us a green and pleasant land. But we are screwing up the world big time. And in a few hundred thousands years it may not even be here. And like rats leaving a sinking ship will leave and go and infest and wreck other planets.

I got about half a tubful in the end and that was after driving another two miles. I'm going to head over to Stroud tomorrow where there are more wild areas to pick from.
They seem to care more about their environment over there and the amount of times they have knocked back plans to build in the 5 valleys is quite funny really.

I just have to go to the back of our house and across a large car park - got scratched to bits but worth it.
At the weekend we went to Roseberry Topping expecting to find loads of blackberries - but as it is a popular spot they had all been picked clean!"This site is addictive!"
