Mince that doesn't clump!

Title says it all!

I have 1kg of mince that I want to batch cook into tomato based mince for spag bol etc...

Everytime I make mince it clumps together? Any ideas on how to make it so it doesn't do that?

Ideas greatly appreciated. OH won't eat it if it's clumpy!

Add the mince to the pan and cook slowly. While doing this, bash continually with a wooden spoon. Works for me, and I find it's best with good quality, rather than fatty mince :D

I put mine on a highish heat and just break it down the whole time it is browning, until there are no lumps and clumps at all. Half way through this I pour off some of the fat and return the meat to the pan to finish off browning.
  • ditto what everyone already said, whilst cooking beat it into submission with a wooden spoon (or just break down the clumps) :)

My top tip is to put the mince into a large bowl, rub a small amount of cooking oil into ur hands & break the mince up before cooking it, I saw Jamie Oliver do it & it works :D

The sppon bashing while browning best way to go. Great after a particularly stressful day at the office or OH being slightly annoying!

I third the bashing it with the wooden spoon, or better is the flat wooden spatula things

Also, don't put too much mince in the frying pan
