We're getting a mortgage! Advice desperately needed!!

My partner and I are getting a mortgage together and will be opening a joint bank account to cover this and all utility bills, etc. We were wondering whether it would be more advisable to get a current account or a savings account, as there will always be quite a lot of money in there at one time.
Any advice most welcome.
