My neighbour has an organic fruit & veg box delivered & a couple of times she has not cancelled the order when she's gone on holiday & invited me to have the veg rather than throw it away. I have to say I was appalled by the poor quality of the box contents.

I tried a few different box schemes before I found one I was happy with. Initially I couldn't find one locally so used one of the national box schemes and have to admit I thought it was not only over priced but often poor quality. I switched to a different national supplier and though they were better, they were still over priced for what I got. I then went to a local farmers market and there was a stall there that sold lovely fresh looking fruit and veg at quite reasonable prices - and all organic. I enquired about box delivery and it turned out that so many people had done the same they were now willing to deliver to my area. They grow many of the things themselves, but what they need to buy in they buy as locally as possible - though I don't suppose bananas and oranges will ever be local!

I pay £9.50 each for a vegetable bag and a fruit bag. The fruit bag always has more than enough in so I either pass some on to my DD or I make a huge jug of smoothie. The vegetable bag always lasts at least the week, though I do buy extra potatoes and usually some rocket or other salad leaves at the supermarket. The quality is always good and the produce fresh. The flavour of the food is excellent.

Incidently if you live in the north east the company I use is Blubell Organics
