Old Pc's

We have decided to start clearing out our roofspace to be ready to downsize in about 2 years ( yes it will probably take that long to clear it!! ).
We have 3 old PC's with CPU's etc still in working order. I doubt we'd get anything by putting them in the paper so does anyone know of any organisation that could make use of them?

Always a sticky one. If they are that old that they are worthless, what would any charity be able to do with them?
What o/s are they running?0 -
You can always try freecycle. Failing that, if you have kids, ask their school if they are in need of any 2nd hand PC's. Playgroups should be welcome to them as long as they're formatted etc.0

They are between 4 and 7 years old so not quite antiques. I'll try the schools and see if they are interestedMember #7 SKI-ers Club

Why not try your local social services. A good home could be found for them.0 -
Thanks Frenchtoast, I'll try them.Member #7 SKI-ers Club

Always ask the schools ... even my 3yr old daughters pre-school class are using a computer and believe me, a 3yr old using a 386 based pc etc... will not know the difference.0

I really don't know how you go about wiping it but make sure there are no sensitive items left on there... even passwords can be found to banking sites if someone in the know gets hold of them... I have often wondered what to do to make them safe, it always looks so complicated when I go looking for information...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

As a very general rule, I'd say anything under 10 years old is good for at least something, USB ports are definately highly desirable?0

Download a copy of http://www.edubuntu.org/, then boot from the live CD and install the operating system to the hard drive.
This will clear all the data from your PC and set it up with a full suite of free software suitable for school children.0
