Yep I agree, not the OP's fault as bookstart normally give good freebies in packs. I cant see a child having any interest in in whatsoever its got no colours and doesnt look like a book.

In fact I'll read it to you all.....

On day just before bedtime, a mummy and a little boy shared a book together....

But the bed flew out of the window......

    Into the jungle....

    round a mountain...

    under the ocean.....

and back again. Her baby thought it was the best magic ever. All this excitement made the little boy fall asleep.

    The end

Hardly an incentive to buy more books, i expected one like we got in the 8 month check bag.

Well I can imagine my little one loving that story :T and the feedback from the end users so far is good enough for me and thats what counts. :D Bookstart is a charity that aims to introduce kids in deprived areas to books at a young age and it has shown that creating a love of books helps children to do better at school and through life with their reading abilities. They have probably produced this as a leaflet to reach as many young children as possible. I can't believe how many people are moaning probably because it has no resale value and have 'stuck it straight it the recycle bin' The least you can do is pass it on to a young mum in the post office or on a bus or leave it in the doctors/dentist with the mags.

The parents view was still the same......

Got our "book" this morning, I thought it was rubbish

Arrived this morning, I was disappointed at the book (its really a leaflet)

Just because I forgot to add that my 8 month old loved it and tried to eat it means that I was expecting resale value??

No, I was expecting a nice little book to add to her bookshelf, sadly this one doesnt cut it.

Its nothing to do with not supporting what bookstart is doing. Its just advising that if people are expecting to get a childs book, dont get too excited about it.

    a) It's a bit rude and offensive of you to suggest some of us have commented negatively because it has "no resale value". Please don't sit in judgement on other MSE'ers like that.

    b) You obviously haven't seen it - it is NOT a book as described by Bookstart - a leaflet only (and mine was also badly crumpled in the post!) If you tried to pass it on to anybody trust me, they would have been mightily offended - unless you have friends who appreciate being handed recycling paper.

    c) I posted clearly to give people warning NOT to go for this one - if you think it through, that it means it saves Bookstart postage money too!
I am sorry if you feel we shouldn't warn MSE'ers about freebies that aren't as they have been described.

The sad thing is this whole shambles doesn't do Bookstart any favours either.

I was shocked when i opened what looked like junk mail to discover it was the so called book, it was just a leaflet on what looked like recycled paper. The usual quality of the bookstart freebies is great but i thought this was a waste of money on their part. Really disapointed for the kids as we love books and spend loads on them to get a free one would have been great but this was honestly awful.
  • I have to say, yea, I suppose it was a glorified leaflet, but it was kinda cute & my little boy loved it cos he could read it all by himself! :o

As freebies go, I've had worse. :D
:):D Tightwad. And proud of it! :D:)

I haven't applied for the 'leaflet' you are all talking about, but do you all realise that your child can get proper books from Bookstart in the form of three age appropriate packs.

    http://www.bookstart.org.uk/Parents-and-carers/Packs

My children have all had them and they were really nice. Health visitors usually give out the first two and pre-schools, etc. the third (well in my experience they did anyway).
  • Hey there, thanks trynsave. I will ask my health visitor about this at my appointment next week. Cheers
