I don't know what to do?

Hello there this is my first post on here!! so here goes.
I cried all night last night and didn't get to sleep till 4.00am.
I have been in debt for 4 years and finally got onto DMP last Sept, hurrah I thought now I can relax and start living my life again, BUT the Halifax are still putting interest on my debt and said they will sell it on to a debt collections agency, so I fell further back into debt hell fearing all the constant phone calls and aggro! The worst thing is that my DH dosen't know anything about my debt and its making me feel ill
and I don't know whether to come clean and suggest we extend our mortagage, as we have alot of equity in our house and we will be splitting up soon, which has been on the cards for awhile when our daughter starts college, so taking out my debt from my share of the sale of the house???? I just don't know what to do, I am so unhappy and have been for too long, my doctor is refering me for councelling and I am even crying now as I write this, I should be feeling better but I'm not

Hi There
Sorry to hear you are feeling so low. How would your DH react to your debt? Is it worth sitting down and maybe trying to talk about a way out for you with him? I'm not sure which would be your best option regarding extending your mortgage as this maybe a bit like robbing peter to pay paul?
You could try talking to your DMP provider they may be able to advise you further on this. Please try not to worry there are plenty of experienced people on this forum who may be along shortly with more advice, in the meantime, I hope you start to feel better and good luck with everything.Debt at Sept 2006 £63,500:eek:

hi
i know how you feel. i was in loads of debt but couldn't tell anyone. i got 'found out' which was the worst part. if id come clean, it would have been much easier.that was a year ago and now i have a budget plan which i stick to rigidly, and it feels great to be broke and not spending cos i know that its one less letter or phonecall that i have to hide or lie about.
come clean, talk it out. keeping it to yourself only makes you feel ill.
you can come out the other side. think positive, come clean and it will get much easier!

I'm not sure if this is correct for everyone but once my debts went to the DCAs interest stopped and although they contact me occasionaly to see if I can pay more or pay in full generally they leave me alone. so for me DCAs are better than the original company I owed. You have a DMP if it's with a fee paying company phone CCCS as soon as poss they do not charge for their DMPs and always give good advice and Im pretty sure you can change to them. even if you cant change phonethem anyway for their free advice. If you are with them or payplan get onto them and let them know your concerns. It will all work out in the end so try not to worry too much.0

Hi Spacecadet,
I know you're feeling quite low at the moment, but you're actually going about everything the right way. If you browse around this site (start with this board and the Old Style board), you'll learn a lot from the experiences of other people about how to deal with debt. Talking to a counsellor will help you deal with the emotional side of things (and we can help too). If you talk to somebody from CCCS, this will give you the best advice you can get about how to deal with that Halifax debt. Once you've started making a bit of progress on these, you'll soon start feeling more positive about it all. Then I'm sure you'll feel more positive about discussing all this with your husband.
Just take little steps at first, you'll be amazed how quickly you start feeling much more in control of things.0 -
I am with the CCCS and spoke to them yesterday and they said that it was normal for my debt to be sold to a debt collection agency and not to worry, I have been reading some of the get out of debt by xmas threads and it has encoouraged me, I was wondering if anyone knew how the cc companies view you paying off large sums of money from the debt if you are on a DMP? won't they want some of the interest back you should have been paying them?Feb 2008= £29,149.97 debt:embarasse
