Why can't I get help??

Hi there.

I don't have massive amounts of debt but what I do have for my age and my income is impossible and when I try and get help from my bank they just tell me to stop using my debit card (which is the least of my problems).

I want to ideally consolidate my debts but can find nobody who is willing to help me.

I have £1500 on a credit card, a £300 o.d. on my debit card (which I always have to live in at the end of each month and have done for 4 years now), a £300 o.d. which is now with a debt collection agency because I cant afford the payments of £70 a month, and a £270 o.d. which is with a debt collection agency and which I will start paying £50 to per month.

I havent used my credit card for over a year now but so far I have only managed to pay off £40, even though I have made the minimum payments every month for about 2 years, I can barely afford to pay more.

I have my normal bills to pay too and I dont see how I am not going to end up in court about at least one of these debts!

Please please PLEASE, any advice will be welcome and I will try anything.

Thanks for listening.

To be honest, I don't know how to switch it to a 0% interest one because I applied for two and both got rejected.

I read up on it on this website but it depends on my credit I guess, and its probably not very good.

    Any info?

  • Hi Mayforher

There may not be any one solution but you may well be able to cut your other outgoings to the point where you can survive. Post your SOA on here for people to have a look at. Have a go at getting a 0% card but as you have arrears you might struggle to get one as your credit rating might not fare you well. (I haven't missed any payments on any debt for 5 years and still can't get a 0% card)

I would contact one of the debt counselling charities (CCCS gets a very good press on here) they won't ask youfor any money and may be able to help you arrange a debt management plan which could freeze the interest you are paying and will allow you to pay back what you owe at a level that you can still survive on.

See Immoral Angel's sticky at the top of the forum for links to guidance on posting a SOA and also links to debt charity webites.

Good luck with it all and stick with this forum - best support in the world (although it does tail off a bit this time of night, if you don't get many responses today you could always try posting on your own thread tomorrow earlier in the evening to bump it up to the top - there are often over 200 people in the forum between 7-9pm)

I don't think consolidating would be a great idea as it would just be more debt to pay off and therefore higher payments. Sounds like you have enough to find already. Is there any way of decreasing your outgoings and increasing your income?

Can you list these so that people can make suggestions which might help?

Well done for posting and welcome to dfw
