Home made ice cream question.

Has anyone tried using powdered custard rather than a fresh egg custard to save time and money? Did it work?

Thanks, Ness.

If you can use tinned then one made from the ordinary powder should be okay then? Does it make a huge difference to the taste?

Not sure I've never tried it.I just remember seeing the recipe for it in the booklet that came with my ice cream maker

It doesn't take any longer to make fresh custard than it does to make artificial powdered custard, surely?

Perhaps not, but it's always a bit risky whether or not it'll turn into scrambled eggs or not (for me anyway) and it uses up three eggs.

Sorry, Chameleon, completely OT, but you might be interested to know that my OH is heavily involved in the Bulgaria's Abandoned Children project, has been talking to the director of the doc just today on the phone. She is shortly going to the EU with evidence from the programme and they are hopeful to get things sorted there.

That's excellent news, thanks for letting me know! :T :A

I've been in contact with various MEP's and one has sent me copies of some of the correspondance that has been passed between various departments, so it's encouraging to know people are doing what they can to help.

There's also going to be something on the BBC news at 10 tonight about children in the Czech Republic. I get the impression it's a similar story there too :(

As for the custard, I'd forgotten about the scrambled egg effect, it's that long since I've attempted to make it :D

Yep, they are currently working on what's the best future for the children, some of the best people in the world in this field are now on the case, so hopefully in the future they will have much better lives, and other children will be able to stay in their families in future as they do here.
