Keep Calm & Don't panic

I have read many threads with a great deal of interest and wish I had time to read them all cos there is so much help out there.
I thought I would do what I could without going over the same tips and the only thing I could think of was to share my own story and spread a little hope!!
My husband and I got married 5 years ago and we both had a small overdraft each and a small car loan each. In the 5 years we have been married we have run up a whopping £57,000 worth of debt. The debt wasn't run up on purpose with luxuries and good times- in fact too this day we have nothing to show for it. We were financially niave and made some fundamental financialy disastourous decisions. We lost money on a house (in this current climate!!another story not our fault!) and buying a car from a car supermarket which ripped us off left right and centre. I was at a stage of my life where things were so bad we couldn't afford to buy nappies for my son.
6 months ago a friend mentioned in passing this website. Since that day my life has changed so much it is hard to put into words. All i can say is my dread has disappeared and has been replaced with hope and it is all down to the people who use this website. We still owe all that debt but where as before we couldn't afford to keep it at bay - with all the tips from this website & Martins book I no longer look at my debt & faint. We manage our debt very well now and we are slowly but surely starting to eat away at little chunks here and there. It is gonna take us a long time to be clear but I don't let it worry me anymore. My advise is no matter how bad it gets there will always be someone on this website who can help you one way or another. So to all you debters out there....keep your chins up and moneysavingexpert.com as your homepage and turn your dread into hope!!!

Excellent MaccyB. We all come here for different reasons, but Martin, his book and people on this website have all helped to keep the wolf from the door for so many of us.
My OH used to roll his eyes every time I mentioned this site, but now he's grateful that - although we don't have much money - we are able to live cheaply and comfortably (though our two portable tvs decided to die yesterday for differnet reasons, so OH was most annoyed that he couldn't have tea in bed this morning!). However, prob won't replace it as it's not a necessity (sadly).Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0
