Deadline for January's tax payment

Hope someone can help with this.

Being a true money saver, I want to keep my money in my bank account as long as possible before I end up paying "Mr Eyebrows" and his cronies.

So, my question is this:

This 31st January deadline for final payments on 06/07 and first payment on account for 07/08 - is that the date the money has to get to the HMRC or is it the last date the money can be paid in at, say the Post Office?

We are talking well over £10k so it does make a (smallish) difference.

Does anyone know?

HMRC has to recieve the money by that date.

You can pay it direct to HMRC, online, on 31 January and will be credited on that day. You can only use a debit card, though .... not a credit card.
