Zurich Travel Insurance
I have created this new thread to discuss people’s experiences of Zurich Travel Insurance. I did start a previous one but unfortunately it was polluted with persons who obviously have an interest in or are employed by Zurich, who proceeded to attack anyone who had a bad experience of Zurich insurance.
There are a lot of people who have had a very bad experience of Zurich Insurance in particular in regards to Travel Insurance. The FCA are currently carrying out an investigation of this and welcome input from consumers.
My own experience was that I took out a policy for Travel Insurance then booked a holiday some months after taking out the policy. Shortly before going on holiday I was diagnosed with a serious illness and had to cancel the holiday. I made a claim to Zurich who originally accepted the claim it was only after they realized how much it would cost them did they refuse my claim, arguing I should have known about my illness. I complained to the Ombudsman who upheld my complaint.
I know there are a lot of Zurich customers who had similar problems, but could not be bothered going through the burdensome complaints process. I would like hear from you and whether you have complained to the FCA?

I bought travel insurance from this Company in good faith, I then booked a holiday which unfortunately I had to cancel due to a Serious illness. I made a claim on my policy as it was clearly covered. Zurich refused to pay out! I am told a lot of people have similar problems with Zurich Insurance they never pay out. I understand that they are under investigation.
I am sure many members have had similar experiences.0 -
How are you sure that it was "clearly covered"? One possible reason for your claim being declined is if you didn't declare all pre-existing medical conditions.
Do you have a link regarding your claim that they are under investigation?

" I am told…", "I understand….", "I am sure…".
Quite a lot of hearsay and speculation there.
Are you simply looking for people to report similar Zurich payout failure?
To what purpose?

They would have given a reason for declining the claim, what was it?

What reason did they give you for denying the claim?

Zurich certainly do payout, insurance is a highly regulated industry and an insurer is covered by both the PRA and FCA. If they never paid out they would have lost their licence decades ago.
So, on what grounds did Zurich decline your claim? Most common one is undeclared medical conditions but you have given so little detail it could be one of a long list of things people do wrong.

You said you believe it was "clearly covered" but obviously it wasn't.
Zurich refusing claims is certainly not a common topic on these boards and what evidence do you have about them being under investigation and by what body?
Unless you are prepared to divulge all the circumstances and post the refusal letter or email, suitably redacted, you won't get any opinions or possible help.0 -
You can follow the complaints process in your policy document to maske a complaint.
If you are not happy with their final reply or they do not reply within 8 weeks you can refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsmann.

I believe the above comments defending Zurich either come from the Company itself or a PR company it has employed. Zurich have an awful reputation check out Trust Pilot and other forums, they have a starting point on Travel Insurance of never paying out, they then trust people cannot be bothered to go through the Ombudsman route to complain. In my personal case I took out a policy who clearly covered illness when you had to cancel a holiday, they agreed to pay out but changed course when they realized how much it would cost them. Stay away from Zurich Insurance

I have read on countless public forums how bad Zurich Insurance is in that there starting point is to never pay out. I have personal experience of this, I took out Travel Insurance and then booked a holiday some months after taking out the policy, a short time before I was due to go on holiday I was diagnosed with a serious illness and had to cancel my holiday. I put in a claim to Zurich, they originally agreed it was covered but then said it was not when they realized how much it was going to cost them.
I know a lot of people have similar experiences and they are under Investigation.Zurich PR or a company employed by them need not enter this conversation, we only want to hear from real customers.
