Mum has one of these & adores it. My sons wish she'd got one with slightly longer arms as they like Big baked spuds.Rosa_Damascena said:

@DigForVictory - your sons can use a long metal skewer poked all the way through the potato instead. Works in the same way.10

Affirmation of my bargain, you can't buy a pack of 4 skewers for as little as £1Happycas said:@DigForVictory - your sons can use a long metal skewer poked all the way through the potato instead. Works in the same way.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.9 -
Metal nails work too.

@weenancyinAmerica, I Already have a bit of a reputation with the local hardware merchant (Husband would send me in for bits when he was too bashful, like one particular bolt) so to rock up asking for the metal work needed for a crucifixion might not raise too many eyebrows, but asking if I'll get change from a pound might. However, I can enjoy selecting a few hearty pointy lengths of metalwork, pay cash & putter off muttering darkly about the arcane demands place by Windows 11...11

I'm in the long skewer all the way through camp and find it shortens the cooking time by about half to three quarters of an hour for really big spuds so well worth doing. @Rosa_Damascena I really like the look of that contraption though so will be keeping my eyes peeled for one in future forays.
@DigForVictory the idea of winding up your local ironmonger made me giggle.
Anyway, I succumbed to the lure of my favourite bhf shop the other day and promptly fell for all these books. The Gourmet Traveller fell open at a recipe for a savoury custard with several delectable sounding flavour options so I just couldn't put it back on the shelf, I'll let you know whether my efforts are edible. They came to £8 altogether which I thought was very reasonable.

@goldfinches - That book "The Good Life" looks very interesting. Thanks for the picture of it.5

It was a BBC series recreating a much loved sitcom from the 70s which I loved, so naturally I pounced on the book. You can see the episodes on this YT channel or read the BBC page about it if you're interested. And here is the original in all it's glory. Enjoy.weenancyinAmerica said:@goldfinches - That book "The Good Life" looks very interesting. Thanks for the picture of it."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

Thank You @goldfinches - I have seen the original series. Loved it. Actually have seen it more than once. Didn't like the way it ended though. But I am a book fanatical book buyer - especially self-sufficiency books.3

@goldfinches - Thank you for the link. I have saved it so I can watch again.2
