What happened when you did what I said?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Without going through to the final payment: on the NexusPay app I selected 4 hours parking for £8.40. I then got a notification to go to my bank's app and confirm the transaction (and then to confirm I had done that back on the NexusPay app). I went onto my bank's app and it asked me to approve the payment. It showed the amounts, the merchant name (miradaconnectlimited), reference, and date & time. The option then was to confirm or reject the transaction. If I had confirmed I would then have had to go back to the NexusPay app to confirm that I had confirmed (!!)

Pending Transactions: A transaction might show as £0.00 or a dash while it's processing (pending) and will update once fully cleared.

There was a pending transaction that resulted in a PCN for another poster on this forum some time ago. It disappeared from the account before a screenshot could be taken. I don't know what the outcome was of this claim.

There have been numerous PCN's issued in two car parks in a small city near to where I live. Some of these PCN's were issued when payments were declined. The payments where not declined immediately but some time afterwards which is strange because if there is lack of funds or an issue with the card the payment is immediately declined. It seems as if the payments were not captured. There could be various reasons for this but there is a facility to delay the capture of a payment.

Why payments aren't captured (Merchant Perspective)
    • Manual Capture Settings: You set your system (like Stripe, Shopify) to manually collect funds only when goods are shipped or services rendered.
    • Fraud Prevention: To perform extra checks for suspicious transactions before taking the money.
    • Inventory Checks: To ensure items are in stock before finalizing the sale.
    • System/API Issues: Configuration errors or blocked API calls (e.g., by Cloudflare) can prevent capture.
    What happens to the payment
    • Authorization Holds: Funds are set aside (blocked) but not transferred.
    • Expiration: The authorization typically lasts about 7 days (or less for some cards).
    • Reversal: If not captured within the window, the hold is released, and the payment disappears from pending.

There could have been a systems error. It's difficult to know without having access to their systems. If the bank confirm that there was some activity on your account relating to the incident I would say that there has been an issue with the capture of the payment.

Don't forget you are dealing with parking scammers that are unreasonable and overjoyed that this has happened it makes them money from not clued up victims.
Nexus are only providing what they term as "parking management", they do not own the car park, they do not get the proceeds of the payment, they cream off their profits from PCN's.
They want the least costly way of managing payment processes and use other technology to catch non payers and other infractions, it sometimes fails somewhere in the various crossover links, they always blame the motorist what ever you say, don't be surprised at that.
Have you been here before, are you sure it's a pay on entry not a pay on exit where maybe there is say a 10 minute free grace period which would return a zero charge?
But you haven't said where this is or what type of car park, maybe it's cropped up here before.
Have you tried plan (A) yet?
Remember in all this they are a two bit parking company not an authority that are tying to twist you out of money, if their system links failed somewhere along the line that's their fault for choosing that method of payment not yours, and it seems like you have excellent evidence if they are stupid enough to take it to the SCC.
    Thank you for your comments.
It is in Brighton on private land owned I assume by Buzz Bingo.
You pay on entry, and the only available method is by using the NexusPay app.
I had used them before with no problem. However this time the app did not work so we immediately left the car to give me time to sort it out. I downloaded the app again, attached my credit card, then paid for 4 hours. Only then did we go back into the car park. We would not have gone back in if I had not been absolutely sure that I had paid for the parking. As you can see I was cautious enough already!
    PS what is "Plan A"?

Apologies, "left the car" in the above should read "left the car park"!

Is there a way to edit comments once posted? (I am new to this)
