"The 5-yearly Electrical Safety Inspections"
Comments

You can't if it is something that your Landlord is legally obliged to have carried out. Your tenancy agreement will allow for the fact that you have to be accommodating to such requests for access.TriP_3 said:This is a commie nanny-state requirement and a complete invasion of privacy by an "inspector" who will be taking account of my entire home and all of it's electrical devices. I can't believe this was passed, apparently the renting population is too !!!!!! to report an electrical fault within their own home (as is the requirement listed in my tenancy agreement already). How can I legally deny these "inspectors" access to my home?
Do you feel the same about the annual gas safety inspection, too?
1. It isn't, and it won't be.TriP_3 said:
Yes, it is. How in the world did anyone manage before this law went into effect in 2020, I wonder?flaneurs_lobster said:
No it's notIt's bad faith. It's assuming you've done something wrong (broken the tenancy agreement) until proven otherwise.
1. It's the law
2. Your landlord won't have valid property insurance unless the electrics are inspected/approved.
3. Makes sure you are in no danger from faulty appliances
Refuse this access and you can guarantee your landlord will want to do a full inspection.
1. It's a stupid law that needs to be repealed
2. Again, this is the result of a stupid law that only enables landlord surveillance
3. I can decide for myself if I have a faulty appliance
2. Again, it isn't. And it doesn't - there is literally no surveillance involved.
3. If you have the relevant electrical qualifications why don't you present your credentials to your landlord and ask if you can tender for the contract to carry out this work for them?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I do actually, yes, however I understand that external gas lines are a constant threat to those around me if not properly maintained, while the electrical wiring is not.Do you feel the same about the annual gas safety inspection, too?0 -
not to mention there are only three gas inspection points around my home whereas the electrical expection has well over 20 points in the deepest reaches.0

I could perhaps understand the reticence if the OP were running a weed farm or a brothel. But I'm guessing that probably isn't the case...0

I suspect those that were in Grenfell Tower on the night of 14th June 2017 would rightly call you out on such a cavalier statement.TriP_3 said:

Let's be honest though, we're all beginning to wonder what they are so keen to hide from their landlord, aren't we!artyboy said:I could perhaps understand the reticence if the OP were running a weed farm or a brothel. cherry-picking arguments is unseemly, sir.EssexHebridean said:

there's that bad faith again, that "guilty until proven innocent" mentality -- can't just let people be, huh?EssexHebridean said:

No cherry picking involved - a pure statement of fact.TriP_3 said:

Mis-gendering someone who clearly states their preferred pronouns is however what most folk would consider unseemly - but don't fret, I won't hold a grudge.
Oh I absolutely can let "people be" - but not when they are being difficult and obstructive about someone simply tying to fulfil their legal obligations - obligations which have been put into place to try to ensure better standards of safety in rented properties! Trust me - if you've been as obstructive towards your landlord as it seems you have been in this thread, they will almost certainly be planning an actual inspection of your property as they too will be wondering what the problem is!TriP_3 said:
