Cowboy Builders

I've just been scammed by a cowboy builder for the second time and he's damaged my neighbour's property.
He spoke in an English accent, was immaculate and very charming. Have done some digging and uncovered a video of him talking in a strong Irish brogue. His father's name is Paddy and he was bare knuckle boxing - get the picture?
Can I ask any builders on here what would get them rushing round to repair the bodge. What's the worst thing a disgruntled customer could do without getting their head knocked in.
I did not have a contract and paid in cash. I trust no one and cannot afford to be ripped off again.0

Probably best to write it off and learn from it.0 -

If you describe what the bodge job was, perhaps people might be able to help a bit more.
I think you've already learned never to pay up front for a job, and ensure there's enough left owed until you're happy with the final job.0
