dvla tax refund

Third Anniversary First Post
Hi,
the dvla hasn't refunded my car tax, worth £200, for 11 weeks.
I have opened 3 cases, and put in a complaint but still nothing. ie absolutely zero response by email, call, or letter. I am completely in the dark.
ps They have my correct mobile number, and correct address, and correct bank details

When I ring, the 1st line says it's been passed over to another department, but no way of contacting them.

It seems like the dvla system keeps generating "Error, payment not sent " but noone is looking into it
I am spending half an hour , a call with them , with no result.

I actually do need the £200 that they are keeping.
Any ideas, what would be the next step
Many Thanks

Why are you due a refund?

Did you SORN it or did you sell it and to whom private or trade?  Have you checked if its still registered in your name?

What does the DVLA website show as to the tax status?

What is the vehicle and when was it first registered?

It shouldn't matter, when you SORN DVLA send a refund cheque to the person on the V5 at the address on the V5. You might have trouble paying it into your bank though if it is wildly wrong rather than an obvious typo.

Agreed. I'm puzzled as to why there's an issue here.

To SORN a car online, you simply go to the website, give the registration and either doc ref number or V11 reminder number, then wait for a cheque to arrive to the name and address on the V5C - which it usually does within a day or two. In very short order, the car shows as SORNed on https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

Something is clearly more deeply wrong.

OP - a couple of questions...

Is the V5C name and address correct? Post to that address reaches you quickly and reliably?

What website did you try and use...? https://sorn.service.gov.uk/ is the only true one. There are almost certainly scam sites out there, as with various renewals.

What shows up on vehicle enquiry?

The only other possibility is that DVLA think there's some kind of fraud or discrepancy going on.

to facade and Mildly_Miffed , thanks for the reply.

yes, I sorned through the governemnet site, and the vehicle is listed as sorned

the name was wrong, as  the seller filled in the new keeper bit
he spelt my surname wrong (lesson learnt)
(I have realised that today and sent of the v5c for an amendment)

They have checked my address, and post gets through 100%
they said the cheque hasbn't gone, as the system generates a payment "error" with no reason given

I've looked on the dvla site, it says tax as SORNed
    reg AG07 BYZ

when I've rang , 3 times, half an hour wait each time, each customer service handler
says they have no idea, as there is no reason why the refund is not going.

I'll wait for 2 weeks to see how the complaint proceeds, that'll take it up to 3 months

I can't see how an incorrect surname spelling would prevent the cheque being issued.

Their systems can clearly cope with the surname - because a V5C was issued.
The surname simply doesn't get checked on taxing or sorning - why would it be? Against what?
